The 10 Best Fallout 4 Mods, Ranked | Game Rant

The Fallout series is considered to be one of the greatest western RPG series of all time, starting out as a CRPG series with excellent narratives and stories before Bethesda took over and transformed the series into a first-person exploration-shooter hybrid that had the same essence as their titles in The Elder Scrolls series.

The release of Fallout 4 was extremely hyped up in particular, with fans of the series being more than stoked by the idea of exploring the rich world of The Commonwealth once again. This went doubly for PC players, who would’ve finally been able to enjoy another new Bethesda title with a ton of mods to improve the overall experience.

Keeping this in mind, here are ten of the best mods to augment the Fallout 4 experience.

10 Improved Map With Visible Roads

Opening the Pip-Boy and looking at the map of the Commonwealth might seem like a rather novel and fun idea, but one has to admit that looking at the same old boring map without any major landmarks can get somewhat confusing after a point.

This mod aims to make the act of navigating the overworld map of Fallout 4 somewhat easier by adding a more detailed version of the map, coupled with roads to help mark one’s progress as well.

9 Start Me Up

While Fallout 4‘s intro might be the most emotionally charged intro of any Bethesda game, one has to admit that sitting through this introduction over and over again for repeated playthroughs can get really old really quick.

Thankfully, with the Start Me Up mod, players can now choose a custom background of their own to start off in. This means that the much-reviled background of being Shaun’s parent can now be completely scrapped in favor of other backgrounds, all of which have dialogue that is tailored to adhere to the backstory of the player as well.

8 True Storms

The Commonwealth might be a great landscape to explore at times, but one has to admit that the weather of these locations can get really drab and repetitive after a point.

Thankfully, with True Storms, the Commonwealth can become more of an unpredictable — and rather beautiful — beast, with everything from blinding dust storms to dangerous radiation rains coming into the picture to make for an unforgettable experience as players explore the vast land of the Commonwealth.

7 Armorsmith Extended

One of the most popular and well-realized mods for Fallout 4, Armorsmith Extended ends up integrating a total of sixteen massive changes to make the act of wearing the apparel and armor scattered across Fallout 4 all the more memorable.

From the player and their companions being able to wear almost anything to the complete overhauling of the armor modding system — there’s a slew of changes enabled by this mod that exemplify why it’s such a beloved mod among the fanbase.

6 Fallout 4 — Texture Optimization Project

The reception to Fallout 4 was positive enough upon launch, but there was one aspect of the game that was universally underwhelming for many — the graphics. Textures in Fallout 4 didn’t really look up to the mark for many gamers, especially on consoles.

In a bid to rectify this, the Texture Optimization Project came into being. With this mod, the world of Fallout 4 looks truly beautiful and worthy of being compared with some of the modern AAA releases with amazing graphics to boot.

5 Place Everywhere

Workshop Mode was one of the more interesting and unique additions to the gameplay of Fallout 4, allowing players to craft and upgrade settlements as they saw fit to allow for a more personalized experience with their game.

The Place Everywhere mod takes things up a notch by allowing players to access Workshop Mode pretty much everywhere on the map, enhancing the freedom that players can experience in this mode and making for some rather unique scenarios as well.

4 Better Settlers

One thing that people have definitely complained about in Fallout 4 is the fact that the settlers present in the game aren’t really all that varied, leading to a situation where players can encounter the same NPC across different settlements on the map.

To prevent this immersion breaker from ruining most people’s experience with the game, players can download the Better Settlers mod, which adds more than 230 new and fresh settlers to the game while simultaneously improving their AI to make them less braindead in a whole host of situations.

3 Vivid Fallout

While the texture pack discussed previously might be great in its own right, players who specifically want the backgrounds and landscapes of the game to be more detailed — given the fact that these two facets of the game will be in view the most — should definitely download Vivid Fallout.

This mod ends up enhancing the landscapes of the game substantially and makes for a visually pleasing experience that certainly won’t wear players down throughout their journey.

2 Full Dialogue Interface

One part of Fallout 4 that was pretty much universally reviled by the fanbase was the fact that players couldn’t really see what they were exactly going to say, leading to a situation where the single-word descriptors present in the dialogue system ended up conveying something completely different instead.

Thankfully, with the Full Dialogue Interface mod, this worry will soon become a thing of the past. Players can now easily see what the main character is going to say without having to guess the same.

1 Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

As is the case with most Bethesda games, Fallout 4 isn’t exactly a bug-free experience in the slightest. There are several problems that take away from the overall experience at times, and people who want to avoid this should definitely download one of the most popular mods present across most of Bethesda’s games.

The Unofficial Fallout 4 patch is a must-have for any gamer who doesn’t want to be plagued with bugs while playing Fallout 4… regardless of how minor this glitch may be. This comprehensive patch removes most of the annoying and game-breaking bugs in the game, allowing for a smooth and hassle-free journey through the world of Fallout 4.
