Last Friday, publisher Square Enix launched a new digital showcase series called Square Enix Presents. As expected, the event provided players with much-anticipated updates on games such as Marvel’s Avengers, Life is Strange: True Colors and more. However, one interesting title currently gaining some attention right now is Outriders, which is under development by studio People Can Fly.

Thanks to a playable demo released last February, many are hyped about Outriders‘ forthcoming release. However, for those who are still unfamiliar with Outriders, here is everything players should know about the upcoming game, including its story, gameplay, multiplayer mode, platforms, and release date.

Outriders will be available on a wide range of platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia. Luckily for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, Outriders is releasing to the service on day one. It is worth noting that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game will have next-gen enhancements compared to their last-gen counterparts. According to People Can Fly, the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Outriders will target 60 FPS, while the PS4 and Xbox One will only be hitting 30 FPS.

Outriders is launching on April 1, 2021. Although the release date is only days away, players who can’t wait to see what the world of Enoch has in store for them should check out Outriders‘ playable demo. The Outriders demo is available on all the platforms the game will release on, with the exception of Stadia. Additionally, any progress made by players on the demo will carry over to the full game, given that both the demo and the game are played on the same platform.

Outriders is an upcoming cooperative role-playing third-person game currently being developed by People Can Fly, and will be published by Square Enix. In a nutshell, Outriders is basically a third-person shooter with all the action-packed mechanics that can be expected of the genre. However, People Can Fly is mixing elements from role-playing and MMO games, giving players a highly-customizable experience.

Luckily for those unfamiliar with Outriders‘ concept, Square Enix released a 101 trailer that details everything players should know about the game. Its story revolves around an advanced party of colonists called Outriders who arrived at the alien planet of Enoch. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the planet, the Outriders encounters a mysterious energy storm called the Anomaly. Most of the units were wiped out, and while some survived the phenomenon, they were left altered with superhuman abilities. Enoch’s inhabitants were also hyper-transformed by the anomaly, making them a menacing threat to the surviving Outriders.

Outriders will offer players a drop-in, drop-out shooter experience that supports up to three players. Currently, only one mode is announced, which is the story campaign. During a campaign, players can invite friends to join on their run, or they can opt to play the entire campaign solo. It is worth noting that having other players in the game wouldn’t affect the story of Outriders. However, the run will be significantly easier if players are with friends, given that each player can combine their skills and abilities that could prove more efficient than playing alone.

Outriders will also allow players to customize themselves and choose one out of four classes: The Trickster, which specializes in close range combat, The Technomancer, a long-range support specialist, the Pyromancer, a medium-range class that can manipulate fire, and the Devastator, focused on close-range combat serving as the tank in the game. Each of these four classes will offer players an advantage over certain enemies and allow players to have a customizable playstyle, alongside an extensive skill tree.

Given its third-person shooter element, players should expect an adrenaline-filled experience in Outriders, combined with heavy RPG elements. In the 101 trailer released by Square Enix, the developers encourage players to engage in heavy exploration in Outriders. It will allow players to participate in side quests allowing them to scavenge gear, weapons, and armor. It is worth noting that all of the weapons and armor in the game can be modified, which will prove helpful to players, especially those who are looking to head to the Expeditions, which is Outriders’ post-campaign content.

Outriders release April 1 on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
