Valve’s weekly report listing the top-selling products on Steam as measured by revenue is out now. This week’s list is particularly interesting, as it features two previous top sellers resurgent. Both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 have returned to Steam’s top-sellers list, though they haven’t been away for long. Neither game was able to take the top place on the list, however. Valheim remains the top-selling product on Steam, a streak now seven weeks long.
Grand Theft Auto 5 climbed the higher of the two Rockstar games on this week’s list. The third-person action game is ranked third overall, the highest its been in some time. Red Dead Redemption 2 reached a respectable sixth on the list. The reason for both being here at all is simple. It doesn’t have to do with any updates or news stories. Rather, Steam is holding a massive Rockstar sale. Grand Theft Auto 5 is discounted up to 63% and Red Dead Redemption‘s price is 33% off.
Even such a massive Rockstar sale couldn’t dethrone the top game of early 2021. Valheim is once again the top-selling game on Steam, where it has been since the start of February and could stay for some time. This past week, Valheim‘s developer confirmed that the co-op survival game had crossed six million overall sales, or a million sales every week since launch. Developer Iron Gate AB also teased that it was shifting more and more away from bug fixes and toward Valheim‘s Hearth and Home update.
Other top performers on Steam this past week include the Valve Index VR Kit in second place, one of the most consistent products on the list. Loop Hero, the unique roguelite, dropped down to fourth after its third rank last week. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s Operation Broken Fang climbed from seven to five, perhaps due to the release of the DLC’s final Strike mission. Then in ninth and tenth are the pre-orders for Outriders and Tale of Immortal, which still doesn’t have an English patch, respectively.
The remaining games on the list, in seventh and eighth place, are both for Forza Horizon 4. Last week Forza Horizon 4 climbed all the way up to second, but it doesn’t look like it has that viral staying power that’ll keep a game on the list for more than a couple of weeks. The two placements are for the game’s standard and deluxe editions.
Looking toward next week, there doesn’t seem to be any contenders for the throne coming up. The Overcooked! All You Can Eat Edition and the PC port of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 both have the potential to make the list, though. One wild card to watch is Super Mecha Champions, an online multiplayer game from the developer of Diablo Immortal, NetEase. The Chinese Steam market could easily launch the game toward the top of the list. It’ll be interesting to see how it works out.
As for Grand Theft Auto 5, even when it drops from the list it’s never far below. Considering how the Rockstar sale has helped lead to Steam’s highest concurrent player count ever and Grand Theft Auto 5‘s popularity starts to come into scope. If it’s not back next week, it’s just a matter of time.
