Players have been asking for bunk beds in The Sims 4 for quite a long time now, and soon that wish will be granted. Bunk beds were originally revealed at the end of The Sims’ birthday celebration livestream. Since then, players have been looking forward to finally not having to rely on Custom Content (CC) or makeshift items for bunk beds. Beyond the new beds, The Sims Twitter recently announced that players have more to look forward to with the base game update.
The social media post not only confirms bunk beds but teases at improved traits and improved textures on consoles. Console players have seemingly gotten the short end of the stick recently, so it’s nice that their concerns are being acknowledged publicly. As for trait improvements, it will be interesting to see what the developer has decided to change for the base game update. These things are welcome bonuses to the bunk bed update.
Bunk beds made their debut in The Sims 3: Generations and they’ve been highly sought after ever since. Bunk beds are great for any room that needs to save some space in The Sims 4, and players are beyond excited to get to play with official bunk beds. Other players have made makeshift ones with the platform tool or downloaded unofficial bunk beds from CC creators, but the official bunk bed will be available to all players — no CC or platforms required.
What seems to be even more exciting about this update is the potential for multiple bunk bed swatches and furniture pieces. Originally, when the bunk beds were teased it looked like it had a metal frame. Now, the preview posted on The Sims Twitter shows a wooden frame and a ladder on both sides. Nothing is confirmed, but it’s possible there will be multiple options for bunk beds, which is great for those who love build/ buy design options.
Another part of the update will be improved traits, though it’s not confirmed what that means yet. There are certain behaviors that Sims with specific personality traits exhibit that sometimes are counterproductive or just plain frustrating. Players will turn to mods to fix the issue or just avoid these traits altogether, so hopefully, this patch will correct the errors at hand. It would also be nice to see more personality trait slots in CAS (Create-a-Sim) but the chances of that happening are slim.
Console players have had quite a few issues running The Sims 4 as of late. When the skin tone update came out in December 2020, it was for both PC and console users. However, PC users got to enjoy it with minimal errors, while console players still struggled with textures and tones. In CAS everything looked fine, but when it came to actual gameplay there were unavoidable patches on Sims’ skin. This issue went unaddressed for many months, but the developer will finally be patching in a fix for console players. Hopefully, console players can enjoy smooth textures without any blemishes or errors after the update.
The highly-anticipated addition of bunk beds to The Sims 4 also potentially opens the door for other features to be added to the base game. If players show that there’s enough of an interest and outcry for something that seems easy to implement at a base game level, there’s potential for even more additions like bunk beds. For an in-depth look at the base game update, players can check out The Sims’ Twitch channel on March 23, where SimGurus will give a full overview of the features in the new update.
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
