Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe might just be the 2 biggest names in all of Hollywood right about now. Both franchises are filled with classic films, iconic characters, and built-in fanbases that buy theater tickets in droves, pushing each and every installment into larger and larger profits. Not to mention that both are owned by Disney, meaning it’s not surprising that some fans are expecting to see some DNA shared between the 2 IPs, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s Sebastian Stan being the subject of many of those expectations.
One way that cooperation might rear its head is with casting choices: in particular, many fans of both franchises have pointed out that Stan, the actor who plays the Winter Soldier in the MCU, bears a striking resemblance to a young Mark Hamill, making him a decent candidate for fan-casting as Luke Skywalker in a future Star Wars project. So much so that even Hamill himself has called out the resemblance, joking about it on Twitter with the hashtag “#MySonSebastian.”
Such acknowledgment from none other than Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker himself of course got fans buzzing once again, and now that a young Luke has actually appeared in The Mandalorian, there’s plenty of reasons to start speculating. So, during a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Stan was pressed on the topic in order to see if he’s ever had any calls from a galaxy far, far away.
If such a Star Wars project is in the works, however, Sebastian Stan is playing coy, saying that he doesn’t think it’s going to happen. In fact, as far as the actor is concerned, he says he won’t believe it until he’s actually taking the call himself: “If Mark Hamill calls me personally and says that he feels inclined to share this role with me, then I’ll believe it, until then, I don’t believe any of it!”
That’s about as straightforward an answer as most actors can give on these sorts of things, so it seems that there aren’t any particular plans to cast Sebastian Stan as a young Luke Skywalker, at least not that he’s aware of. Still, the resemblance is somewhat notable, and it’s fun to watch both Stan and Hamill have some fun with the idea, with Stan even having recorded a mock audition for the character some years ago.
For now, fans will have to make do with the digitally reconstructed young Hamill they got in The Mandalorian, as Disney has not announced any kind of young Luke plans for the time being. Maybe, one day, Stan will one day pick up the lightsaber of his not-father, but until then, he’ll have to settle for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Star Wars saga is now available on Disney Plus.
