Genshin Impact is a free-to-play, open-world, action RPG, gacha game released in September 2020 on PC, PS4, Android, and iOS. The game takes place in the engaging world of Teyvat, home to seven different major nations that are all tied to a specific element: Liyue (Geo), Inazuma (Electro), Sumeru (Dendro), Fontaine (Hydro), Natlan (Pyro), Snezhnaya (Cryo), and Mondstadt (Anemo).
The city-state Mondstadt is not only where the Traveler, the protagonist of the game, starts their journey but also the home of the Knights of Favonius. This is the order that protects Mondstadt and has been doing so for over 1,000 years. The knights keep the citizens safe and uphold the law.
10 None Of The Knights Were Actually Knighted
“An order responsible for protecting Mondstadt and its belief of freedom. Despite its members are known as knights, none has been knighted by any royalty – knighthood is a title they earned from the noble duties they assume.”
This is the description of the Knights of Favonius in the world map in the game. In the Middle Ages, a knight was any man in a suit of armor who served a lord. In ancient Rome, it was simply a member of the Roman cavalry/army; and in ancient Greece, a knight was just a citizen of the second class (not quite first-class).
Today, in the United Kingdom at least, a knight is a man recognized of certain merit or service. He gets to use the title “Sir” in front of his name forever. In Teyvat, however, things are different.
9 Vennessa Founded The Knights Of Favonius
Over 1,000 years ago, the Knights of Favonius was formed by a hero named Vennessa, the “Liontooth Knight.” After she successfully overthrew the aristocracy governing Mondstadt, Vennessa helped the city-state rebuild itself and established the Knights of Favonius to prevent the possibility of aristocrats ruling the land in the future.
She was enslaved at first by the former tyranny that controlled the land. Then Vennessa became a gladiator in the Colosseum and was undefeated. Eventually, she got help from Barbatos, the God of Freedom, and the rest is history. Vennessa is the first Grand Master and Dandelion Knight.
8 Barbatos, The God Of Freedom, Saved Mondstadt (Twice)
Barbatos is the God of Freedom and the current Anemo Archon; he presides over Mondstadt.
When Mondstadt became overrun by an aristocracy over 1,000 years ago, Barbatos descended again to save his people. He was the one who gave Vennessa her special powers, giving her the edge.
Even further back, over 2,600 years ago, Barbatos was just a wisp of wind in Old Mondstadt. He formed a bond with a bard and helped him get rid of the tyrant Decarabian who ruled over the land at the time. Barbatos is good at destroying oppressors; he is now two for two.
7 Jean Is Only The Acting Grand Master
While the player helps out the Knights of Favonius, they will mainly answer to Jean. She is the Acting Grand Master, not the real one. Still, Jean remains devoted to her duties and maintaining the peace in Mondstadt. She would literally die for the people if it meant guarding the city-state.
In fact, Jean is often overworked but also well-liked by the citizens of Mondstadt. She is also quite elegant and successful, and not easily fazed. Here’s something adorable; Jeans looks up to Vennessa, the hero who originally saved the city-state. Whenever she feels lost, often heads to the Great Tree in Windrise, which is where Vennessa allegedly ascended to Celestia (which is like haven but for gods).
6 Varka Is The Real Grand Master
The current Grand Master (and Knight of Boreas) of the Knights of Favonius is Varka. However, the Traveler never meets him because he left Mondstadt for an expedition just half a year before they arrived.
The player only knows what people tell them about Varka. He is apparently is one of the most powerful people in Mondstadt. Tartaglia calls him the “titan of the Knights of Favonius.” He is jovial and well-liked, it is said, as well as carefree. Jean and Kaeya both respect him.
As for his appearance, all is known is that Varka is extremely tall, according to Razor.
5 There Is An Order Of Command Here
Ever since its foundation, the Knights of Favonius has been led by a Grand Master. There must always be a single knight at the helm, devoting their life to all the knights and the people of Mondstadt. But it goes deeper than that.
During their service, knights try to earn the title “Lion” or “Wolf.” These are given to those recognized to have leadership potential. If given the title, they are eligible to hold the position of Grand Master (someday), or at least Grand Master’s Assistant. Below that are Captains and there are also subdivisions within the Knights of Favonius.
4 Meet The Captains Of The Knights
There are ten Captains in the Knights of Favonius. However, the player only winds up meeting three of them: Albedo, Kaeya, and Hertha.
Kaeya Alberich is the Cavalry Captain and the Quartermaster. He is quite eccentric and charming, and trusted by Jean; Kaeya is also highly regarded by the citizens of Mondstadt. The player can control him as a playable character, and Kaeya uses the element of Cryo.
Albedo is the Chief Alchemist and the Captain of the Investigation Team. He can also be controlled by the player as a playable character, and Albedo uses the element of Geo. He is all about alchemy and trying to discover everything and anything about Teyvant and all inside the world.
Herta is the Coordinator and the Captain of the Sixth Company. The player cannot control her, she is an NPC.
3 Meet The Sole Outrider Of The Knight
The Outriders used to be a subdivision of the Knights of Favonius. They were formed by the grandfather of Amber, a playable character who controls the element of Pyro. The Outriders used archery and wind gliders. After Amber’s grandfather disappeared suddenly, the subdivision lost its way without his leadership and fizzled out.
Currently, Amber is the only member of the Outriders. She does whatever she can to defend the people of Mondstadt, all on her own, with her trusty Bow.
2 The Secret Weapons Of The Knights Of Favonius
In Genshi Impact, the player can collect the Favonius Sword, the Favonius Warbow, the Favonius Greatsword, the Favonius Lance, and the Favonius Codex as usable weapons.
However, there is actual lore to these weapons. The Sword comes from Rostam, the Wolf Pup. The Greatsword was created by Arundolyn, the Lion of Light. The Lance originates from Eberhart, the only noble that used spears (and trained in secret). The Warbow traces back to Amber’s grandfather, the Outriders’ original member and heart of the team. The Codex is the only weapon that was not standard among the Knights of Favonius. It belonged to scholars.
1 Zephyrus, The God Of The West Wind
While the Knights of Favonius was officially translated into English as “Ordo Favonius,” Latin for the “Order of Favonius,” there is another meaning. In Roman, “Favonius” is the name for Zephyrus, the Greek god of the west wind. And in Japanese, “Favonius” is translated as “Sepyurosu,” which means “West Wind.”
Zephyrus, in ancient Greek mythology, is one of the Anemoi (wind gods). He is the fructifying wind and the messenger of spring. Zephyrus, of all the wind gods, is said to be the gentlest.
