Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town: How to Get and Use Fodder

Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town continues the series tradition of giving players their own farm to build and maintain. Crops will need to planted, animals raised, and relationships fostered with the inhabitants of nearby Olive Town. The game also draws inspiration from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, giving players all manner of options to make their farm look fantastic.

One of the most important crops that players will need in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is fodder, which is used to feed animals. Without it, animals will go hungry, failing to produce the items that players will need to craft, cook, and sell. Players will also need to get to grips with fodder early in the game, as one of the first things they will need to do is fix an old chicken coop and tame their first chicken.

Fodder needs to be grown, the same as every other crop in the game. This means players will need to make a trip to the Olive Town General Store, where Angela will sell Fodder Seeds for 100G. It is also possible to purchase fodder bundles directly from the Store for 40G, but this should be avoided as it is not the most economically efficient method of getting it.

After purchasing Fodder Seeds, players will need to return to the farm, break out their tools, and plant and water the Fodder Seeds. Fodder can be grown in Spring, Summer, and Autumn and will be harvestable five days after planting. They will also regrow 5 times, giving a total of 6 yields from one seed as long as they are watered daily.

After harvesting the fodder, it can be placed in feeding bins in the coops and barns on the farm, and animals will automatically eat from it once a day. It is a good idea for players to ring the small bells outside each farm building to put the animals out to pasture on sunny days. This will save on costs as the animal will graze instead of eating fodder. Every cent saved is important if players want a successful farm and to be an attractive option for marriage to one of the Olive Town residents.

Basic fodder will take care of animals in the early game, but as time goes on, players will want to increase the quality of their output. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is filled with all sorts of different makers like machines that do all manner of things. Players can use a building called a Silo to turn fodder into deluxe fodder, which they will get access to when they unlock the third area of their farm. Feeding animals every day is vital, so players should ensure there is always a supply in the fodders bins for all the animals.

Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
