‘The Witcher’ Is Going Up Against The Wild Hunt In Season 2

The Witcher has endured an epic tale of filming delays since the start of the pandemic, yet things have slowly gotten back to normal for Netflix’s hit series. In most recent developments The Witcher just added several new cast members, but now it looks like some of Geralt’s mightiest enemies are locked in for season two.

Unlike the new roles cast last week, the Wild Hunt’s presence on set was not reported by Netflix or any of The Witcher‘s official social media handles. Instead, like most leaks related to the show so far, it’s the by-product of The Witcher’s filming process over in England. Although this is certainly exciting news for the series, it does still mean that The Witcher may be quite far off from wrapping up filming, let alone premiering its second season.

The leaked set images were shared on Twitter by the NetflixWitcher subreddit’s account, and the intimidating armor worn by the riders and their horses leaves no room for mistaking them for the Nilfgaardian army, who look quite different ahead of season two. The spiky, dark grey armor and weapons do point to this being the Wild Hunt, though it’s hard to tell if one of the riders is their commander and king, Eredin Breacc Glas.

In Witcher lore, the Wild Hunt is a group of Aen Elle elves, who very much differ from their Aen Seidhe counterparts that inhabit the Continent, as the former group has gone around enslaving other species since the events known as the Conjunction of Spheres (The Witcher’s apocalypse). In the CD Projekt Red’s aptly named The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, these menacing riders take on the role of Geralt’s main antagonists as they set their sights on Ciri due to her Elder Blood.

It’s unclear how writer Lauren S. Hissrich and the rest of The Witcher‘s production team will integrate the Wild Hunt in the show, as they also have plenty of source material to borrow from in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. Given the Wild Hunt’s significance in The Witcher, the elven riders could very well be a season finale cliffhanger. Nevertheless, in case they opt to go with their hunt for Ciri, the character will hardly have time to catch a break after running Nilfgaard forces and training with Geralt.

Speaking of Ciri, actress Freya Allan has posted recently she only has one week left filming her scenes for the show, which would definitely point to this being an end-of-the-year release for Netflix. Until then, at least fans can rest assured there are plenty of games like The Witcher 3 out there.

The Witcher season 1 is now available on Netflix.
