EA Sports PGA Tour Announced For Next-Gen Systems | Game Rant

EA and the PGA Tour have announced that golf will be coming to the next generation of consoles in the form of EA Sports PGA Tour. The game is currently in development with more news set to come out in the upcoming weeks but it looks like players will be able to make a virtual career, fight in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and win the Players Championship.

This will be a continuation of a relationship between EA Sports and the PGA Tour that began back in 1990 with their first golf release, PGA Tour Golf. This new game announcement comes along with a “new, long-term deal” between the two to make golf games for the next generation of consoles.

Details remain limited thus far but the cooperative announcement by the PGA and EA promises that the game will be built on the EA Frostbite engine and leverage next-gen technology. EA Sports PGA Tour doesn’t currently have a release date yet but players should expect that it will contain numerous famous golf courses, and it will allow them to take on the best players in the world and fight for the Players Championship.

This will be the latest release in the EA Sports and PGA Tour relationship, the last of which was Rory McIlroy PGA Tour back in 2015. That title received mixed to average reviews in general and had courses such as Bay Hill, Chambers Bay, and TPC Sawgrass. What EA Sports PGA Tour means for players is that the PGA Tour franchise will return to consoles and the long-term deal implies this will be one of multiple games.

Golf video game enthusiasts should be excited about this news but wary of the hype. The last release from the PGA-EA relationship was not as strong as those that bore Tiger Woods’ name and it has been quite a while since then. If this game ends up being a poor offering, then the chances of success for any future games will take a serious hit as well. It is difficult to say that whether or not the success seen by PGA Tour 2K21 can be replicated by EA’s offering.

It is difficult to say how the time off between games will affect the product and, without any further information, all players can do is wait for more news and stay positive. Generally speaking, though, the games produced by this relationship have been pretty good. It is important that they recapture what made their earlier offerings special. From what we know at the moment, the career mode sounds promising but, as with most of the other titles in the genre, an interest in golf is probably going to be key.

EA Sports PGA Tour is in development and an announcement of a release date will be out in the coming months.
