Skyrim: 10 Hilarious NPC Memes Only True Fans Will Understand

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has definitely left its mark on the gaming world. Nearly a decade after its release, it’s still one of the most talked-about games today. Even the NPCs have interesting dialogue and side quests to offer. Some will even become followers that can help players in combat.

Some of these NPC interactions have become inside jokes among fans. Whether it’s Cicero dancing around as he waits for the Dragonborn to start walking or having a conversation with M’aiq, they have made lasting impressions for fans of the game. Here is a list of some of the memes made about the NPCs of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

10 To Kill Or Not To Kill

One NPC that makes a lasting impression is the jester assassin of the Dark Brotherhood known as Cicero. At first, he might seem a little annoying and downright creepy, but he offers some of the best dialogue. Fans know that somewhere along the line, they will have to make a tough decision: to kill him or not to kill him.

Should the player not kill him, Cicero is an interesting follower. His antics and dialogue will keep players entertained if he’s traveling with them.

9 If Only Alduin Waited A Little Longer

If Alduin had waited just a few more seconds, the Dragonborn would be dead. Alduin would’ve fulfilled the prophecy of eating Nirn and a new world would’ve been born. Instead, he unwittingly saved the one person that is able to kill him and prevent the prophecy from coming to fruition. Though it is still unknown if he is dead or not, but either way, he won’t be fulfilling his destiny anytime soon.

8 If Only He Hadn’t Interrupted

Any player that has played Skyrim knows of the Stormcloak Soldier that got beheaded at the beginning of the game. If he hadn’t interrupted the priestess saying her prayer, he would be alive. There’s no telling if he would’ve lived through Alduin’s attack on Helgen, but at least he wouldn’t have been beheaded. He lives on in the memories of fans of Skyrim as the unnamed Stormcloak Soldier that rushed to his death.

7 How Are The Teachers Even Teachers?

The NPCs in the College of Winterhold are something of a joke among the fans of Skyrim. For it being a school, there’s very little teaching going on. The first quest players do is dig through a dungeon only to find an ancient artifact. Instead of storing it somewhere safe, the whole staff decides to leave it where everyone can see it. There’s very little to no teaching and students are walking around and practicing their magic without higher-ups watching over them.

6 Poor Lydia Has To Carry Burdens

Lydia is probably the most well-known follower that all players of Skyrim know about. When she’s traveling with the Dragonborn, she sounds like she’d rather be anywhere but with the Dragonborn. One of her dialogue lines is her saying she’s sworn to carry the Dragonborn’s burdens, but she becomes a burden pretty early on.

Her Sneaking skills are almost nonexistent so any player wanting to play stealthy should not keep her around. She unwittingly triggers most traps in dungeons. If anything, players will spend more time trying to keep her alive than fighting enemies. It’s best to leave her guarding the house.

5 M’aiq Wouldn’t Lie

M’aiq the Liar is a beloved NPC ever since his debut in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Though the thing is, most players don’t know if he’s lying to them or not. Most of his dialogue sounds absurd and a little out there to be true. Most of his dialogue is him mentioning Easter eggs from previous games or spreading misinformation. Regardless, having a conversation with him is always entertaining.

4 Meridia Demands Help

Once reaching level 12, there is a quest that becomes available to players in Skyrim. After opening any random-leveled chest, there is a high chance that an item known as Meridia’s Beacon can be found. Long-time fans of Skyrim know what this means. After picking this up, the Daedric Prince of Life and Infinite Energies, Meridia, will very loudly make herself known and demand help.

Meridia’s dialogue might not be long when the beacon is picked up, but most players still dread picking it up. Her demanding tone doesn’t go away until the players complete the quest and even then she doesn’t sound too grateful.

3 The Spectral Assassin Should Go Back To The Void

If players want to be a stealthy assassin, it’s best to not summon the Spectral Assassin AKA Lucien Lachance. While his dialogue is interesting and entertaining at times, his combat skills leave little to be desired. Kind of like Lydia, once an enemy starts looking for the player, the Spectral Assassin will attack. For being a spirit of one the most well-known Dark Brotherhood members, his Sneak skills are poor.

2 Nazeem Does Not Get To The Cloud District Very Often

Once players get to Whiterun, it’s very hard to miss Nazeem. He can be in the market area ridiculing the merchants for how poor their food and wares look. If players approach him, he will ask them if they get to the Cloud District of Whiterun, but then says that they don’t before they can answer. Though he makes himself sound important to the Jarl, no one actually sees him go into Dragonsreach.

Another thing that still baffles fans is that even Nazeem is supposedly a wealthy man and owns Chillfurrow Farm, he and his wife sleep in the Drunken Horseman inn. Surely with his wealth, he can afford to live in a large house like the Gray-Mane or Battle-Born families.

1 Fear The Chicken

Most Skyrim players admit to one common mistake they did the first time they played it: they accidentally killed or hit a chicken. While it doesn’t sound like a serious crime, if players kill a chicken, there’s a high chance they won’t have enough to pay the guards off and spend time in jail. If that doesn’t happen, then everyone will come after the player. Since there’s a chance the player won’t have the best equipment, death is almost certain.
