What Makes Immortals Fenyx Rising – Myths of the Eastern Realm’s Ku Different from Fenyx

Immortals Fenyx Rising has already released two of its three expected DLC. The first, A New God, released in January, and the newest DLC, Myths of the Eastern Realm, released this month. The first DLC focused on Fenyx encountering some different quests and challenges, but the newest DLC takes a different approach. It’s still set in the Immortals Fenyx Rising universe, but it introduces an all-new player character and setting for players to explore.

Myths of the Eastern Realm not only strays from the game’s Greek mythological roots but has players complete the DLC as Ku. Personality-wise, Ku differs from Fenyx in a variety of ways, but the most notable difference between the two of them is their culture and a distinct lack of customization when it comes to Ku. Unlike Fenyx, whose appearance can be personalized, Ku is decidedly male with no customizable appearance. In an interview with Game Rant, Ubisoft discussed Chinese culture in the new DLC and how Ku and Fenyx compare to one another.

In a way, comparing these two characters is like comparing apples to oranges. They both have great personalities and skill sets that players enjoy using in-game. However, there are some key differences between the playable characters. According to the developer, Ku is “well-meaning but impulsive” and is also completely human. Obviously, this is a big difference from Fenyx’s parentage

Players can collect skins and perks for Ku throughout Myths of the Eastern Realm, but they cannot take him or the earned perks back to the Gold Isle. As far as fighting style goes, the main difference between Fenyx and Ku is that his fighting technique has a different inspiration. There’s no confirmation that Ku could make future appearances in other Immortals Fenyx Rising installments, as Ubisoft is currently focused on post-launch content for the game.

Players will need to master Ku’s unique fighting style and abilities, inspired by Chinese martial arts, to defeat new enemies and monsters from Chinese mythology

According to the developer, Myths of the Eastern Realm focuses on the concepts of self-discovery, duty, and sacrifice, which are also key pillars of Chinese culture. These themes specifically shine brightest in regards to how Ku and the other gods see themselves before and after the sky is fractured.

As our story is set in an earlier age of Chinese mythology, the player will get to experience myths surrounding the creation of the world, as well as myths from the perspective of Nuwa and Gong Gong.

Though the DLC already has 7 to 12 hours of playtime, it only focuses on a small portion of Chinese mythology. As Ku, players must work with the Chinese mother god, Nuwa, to stop an encroaching evil and reverse the damage that’s already been done. With the smaller scale of a DLC, it’s important to remember that Myths of the Eastern Realm only focuses on a succinct, early portion of Chinese mythology. It’s a great place for players to begin their interest in Chinese myth, and branch out to learn more if their interest has been sufficiently piqued.

Players who want to learn more will find out some cool, historically and culturally inspired details that will increase their understanding of the myths and some Chinese culture as well!

Finally, the developer notes that despite all that’s been revealed, there are still a few surprises waiting for players in the DLC. Players have a ton of new gameplay to look forward to in Myths of the Eastern Realm, as well as a brand new character to take hold of and learn through his eyes.

Immortals Fenyx Rising – Myths of the Eastern Realm is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch and Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
