Persona Fans Get #Persona5Racing Trending on Twitter | Game Rant

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a lot of people finding crazy outlets for their boredom and what Persona fans have been up to appears to be an example of that. Within the last 2 hours, Persona fans have managed to get #Persona5Racing trending on Twitter.

Persona is a series of Japanese role-playing games with intricate stories and complex characters. Persona 5 racing is a little-known meme among the fandom of these games that began with the first teasers for Persona 5 Royal, around December 2018. When Atlas first announced Persona 5 Royal, it referred to it only as “Persona 5 R.” This led to many fan speculations, among these fan speculations being jests that Persona 5 R stood for Persona 5 Racing. On the 27th of December, 2018, user @belasquez_alex became the first person to tweet about the “theory.” Now, several years later, Twitter chaos has ensued.

Today, around two hours ago, a Twitter user going by the name @persona_images rallied the Persona army with a single tweet. “You know how we got #personaisoverparty trending? What if we got #Persona5Racing trending next.” This tweet now has only just over 400 favorites, but it appears the Persona fandom, far and wide, heard the call to arms. Within an hour, #Persona5Racing was trending. Persona fans are now using the hashtag to flood Twitter with memes, ridiculous concept images, and feigned enthusiasm about the “new game.”

Those who keep up with Twitter fads or the Persona fandom might remember #personaisoverparty trending on Twitter only a week or so ago. The source of that trend was the very same @persona_images who is again rallying the Persona fans today. Much of the “personaisoverparty” hashtag revolved around mocking Twitter cancel-culture. The hashtag’s “structure x is over party” is like those that have been used against celebrities and other public figures. Persona fans mocked the concept by jokingly insisting the games were offensive and the fandom was done with the video games.

A lot of fans are likely to be entertained by the Twitter chaos. It is an amusing bit of fun and a harmless way of showing love for the Persona series. Some fans may question the point of getting a hashtag trending for the sole purpose of having it trending. Still, the more Persona memes and art in the world, the better. Though, it is doubtful the same user will be able to repeat this phenomenon a third time.

Persona 5 Royal is available now on PlayStation 4.
