Big Among Us Update Finally Adds the Airship Map to the Game

InnerSloth introduced Among Us‘ The Airship map back in December of last year during the 2020 Game Awards, premiering a reveal trailer that claimed the map would arrive in early 2021. Most fans assumed that meant around late January or early February, but it turned out the map wouldn’t arrive until the very end of March on March 31. It’s been a painful wait, but March 31 has arrived, and as promised, InnerSloth gifted Among Us with its first new map in over a year.

The Airship released today and is now available to Among Us players everywhere. As teased by its reveal trailer and promised by InnerSloth updates, the map features new tasks and areas to explore. The update also introduces new Among Us skins and hats for players to customize their avatars with. The paid version of these skins comes with a new kill animation, so crewmates can now experience death in a brand new and exciting way. The long-awaited personal accounts feature has arrived too.

Regarding details about The Airship Map, it is the largest one released in Among Us to date, maxing out at nineteen locations for players to visit. The only returning locations include electrical, communications, and security. Everything else is new, and after meetings, players will choose where they would like to spawn on the map. The map itself is based on InnerSloth’s Henry Stickman video game, as the new cyborg laser kill animation. It takes inspiration from the Right Hand Man’s laser.

With The Airship map’s release, InnerSloth also took the opportunity to detail more of what it plans for Among Us‘ future. The studio pointed out three goals in particular. First, players should expect Among Us‘ art style to get a full revamp — which should spawn some interesting reactions. Second, InnerSloth will add larger lobbies soon, increasing the player cap from 10 to 15. Finally, InnerSloth will be more transparent in the future to make up for the lack of updates on The Airship’s release.

“More transparent updates” is probably one of the more favored promises from InnerSloth. It means that the small development team is picking up steam and increasing enough to keep up with Among Us‘ unexpected popularity. The developer confirms this as its team has doubled in size since its inception, going from three people to six. Still small but, progress is progress, and more transparency means things like The Airship’s prolonged release shouldn’t happen again.

Among Us is on Mobile, PC, and Switch with an Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S version coming in 2021.
