Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak Mode Gets Its First Easter Egg

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ Outbreak game mode has proven to be a major success, with fans flocking to the to the open-world addition. As such, Treyarch has wasted no time adding content for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ surprise success, including the first proper easter egg for the mode.

The easter egg was added as part of Season 2 Reloaded, though it went unmentioned in the promotional material for the update. Instead, Treyarch chose to keep the addition a secret, allowing the fun objective to surprise any players that stumbled upon it. With most of the attention being given to the new Outbreak Zombies map and the Zombies Onslaught changes, this sneaky addition is as unexpected as it is exciting.

As shown in a video from YouTuber MrRoflWaffles, the new easter egg can be started by finding a beacon symbol on the mini map. These beacons can be found in random locations and on every map, appearing much like the Dragon rocket and other optional activities. Unlike those side quests, however, players will not be told what to do and where to go once the easter egg begins. At the beacon location, players can start the hidden mission by interacting with the radio, and they should take note of the noise it makes.

From there, they will need to find three transmission boxes. They will always be in close proximity to the original radio, though players will need to be thorough when searching, as there is no indicator on the HUD that says where to look. Instead, players will have to listen closely, as a series of buzzes and beeps can be heard when close to the box. Hidden in rooms, on rooftops, and on floors, the items can be found anywhere, though players should know them when they see them. The boxes look just like the one used for Requiem’s radio transmissions in Firebase Z.

Once a box is found, players will then need to match it to the noise played by the original radio. When a transmission matches, players will then need to repeat the process for the other two boxes, killing any Zombies that spawn when adjusting the signal. If all three match properly, gamers can then return to the original radio for their reward. An instrumental version of a random Zombies easter egg song will then play, and once it is finished, players can pick up the tape on the floor to add it to the main menu’s music player.

With several different Zombies songs to collect, this quest is an excellent addition for longtime fans, as having access to more of the mode’s classic tracks is always welcome. While Outbreak will not be getting its first main quest easter egg until Season 3, seeing smaller easter eggs being added is a promising sign.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
