Earth Defense Force is a series about players taking on hordes of alien enemies through third-person shooter action, with giant ants and aliens aplenty. What fans of the series appear to want, considering Earth Defense Force remains somewhat successful, is more. That’s why D3 Publisher and developer Yuke’s are pushing to get Earth Defense Force: World Brothers out quickly, setting a May 27 release date.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is perhaps the largest deviation in the series yet. Rather than semi-realistic visuals, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers has cartoonish voxel-based graphics. The new visuals are showcased in Earth Defense Force: World Brothers‘ new trailer, where Earth itself is a giant cube, the basic component that everything in the game is now made of. Whether it’s EDF soldiers, aliens, robots, or otherwise, everything is voxels, exploding into a flurry of small cubes when defeated.
The new game will be rich with features. For example, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers will offer players a selection of over 100 different soldiers to choose from. Online cooperative action will also be available, allowing up to four players to group up. Alternatively, a two-player split-screen option is available for those who prefer couch co-op. Switch players will have to rely on local connections, however.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers has been available since late 2020 in Japan, but its western localization is now nearing completion. Fans will soon be able to pick up the game on either PlayStation 4, Switch, or the newly supported PC version. However, Cross-play unfortunately will not be supported.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers releases May 27 on PC, PS4, and Switch.
