It appears that certain avid Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans are attempting to make the game more accessible to visually-impaired players.
Details about a Reddit user striving to improve accessibility options in Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently surfaced in a report published by Fanbyte.
The Redditor in question, who goes by the handle SatisfiedRuby82, explained the rationale behind their decision to improve quality of play for visually-impaired players in a thread.
“My aunt is visually impaired,” writes SatisfiedRuby82. “She loves Animal Crossing and wants visitors but is afraid of seeming rude if she doesn’t see the chats. So I made her these. She wants to share the design codes as well.”
The design codes for the sign and note – which comprises four separate parts – are listed in the thread. If you’re interested in downloading them, here’s what you’ll need:

SatisfiedRuby82 later edited their thread in order to update everyone who responded.
“Thanks for all the support for this,” they wrote. “We hope the designs help someone else.”
“We were just talking and her condition is called double colomboma and microphthalmia. She said colomboma is a lot more common, but double colomboma is very rare. Last she heard, a few years ago, only 4 or 5 people worldwide had it, and of those, one is her and one is her daughter (my cousin). Hers is very severe. Her daughter’s is not as bad as hers is.”
A huge amount of people commented on the post, including YouTuber Ross Minor. Minor is completely blind and regularly plays Animal Crossing: New Horizons – he specifically breaks down how this works in a video on his channel, which you can check out below.
Minor is also attempting to create an Animal Crossing island that is accessible to all players, regardless of disability. You should check that one out, too:
