It took a while, but EB Games customers in Australia can now get a refund on Fallout 76.
EB Games in Australia will now offer those who purchased Fallout 76 through the retailer a refund if requested.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) made this “court-enforceable” so the retailer now promises to refund those who requested their money back during the game’s first year of release.
According to customers, EB Games said they were not entitled to a refund, but the chain now admits it was likely to have “misled consumers” regarding Fallout 76’s issues when it launched (thanks, GI.biz).
Now, customers who contacted the company between the time the game released on November 14, 2018 to October 31, 2019 will receive a refund. They have until August 1, 2020 to claim it.
EB Games’ parent company is GameStop, and stores are located in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Back in November, the ACCC said ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, had also misled customers regarding their right to a refund. The majority were asking for their money back due to the game’s technical and performance issues.
In a statement, the ACCC said that ZeniMax Meda “acknowledged they were likely to have misled consumers” in Australia about their consumer guarantee rights in relation to the game. ZeniMax then offered a refund to customers in the country who contacted the firm between November 24, 2018 and June 1, 2019.
