Bloober Team released a new trailer for The Medium, which highlights one of the horror game’s more interesting elements: Protagonist Marianne is gifted (or cursed) with the ability to tap into an alternate world. It’s undoubtedly a handy skill for investigating murders, but the trailer shows that it also probably leads to having a complete nightmare of an existence.

Players can switch between the normal plane of existence and the spirit world at will by using the analog stick, which is used to solve puzzles and navigate paths. According to Bloober Team, both layers are rendered simultaneously, and swapping between them is seamless. The regular world looks creepy enough, with a variety of horror-ready backdrops such as abandoned hotels and funeral parlors. The spirit world is worse, with wall-sized flaps of skin, monstrous creatures, and more.
The Medium is coming to Xbox Series X and PC this holiday season.
