Capcom “closely monitoring industry trends” on PS5 and Xbox Series X game prices

Capcom is another publisher who’s not quite ready to commit to higher prices for its next-gen games.

2K Games has evidently opened a can of worms when it announced that NBA 2K21 will be priced $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Although the publisher itself has since explained that it’s not saying $70 is the new standard, it didn’t stop everyone from asking all other publishers if they’re doing the same.

Capcom is the latest target of this question. As part of the publisher’s Q1 earnings for FY2020, Capcom hosted a Q&A with investors, and the question of PS5 and Xbox Series X game prices came up.

“We do not have a set policy at this time. We will consider our approach having analyzed both our strengths and weaknesses while closely monitoring industry trends,” said Capcom in the translated Q&A published this week.

This is a similar position to the one Ubisoft adopted, which is to say that, for now at least, their games will continue to start at $60. All that said, 2K Games’ decision already has other publishers discussing raising their prices. Though these deliberations are internal for now, they may soon spill over into the real world.
