Marvel’s Avengers: Crystal Dynamics Discusses Repetitive Enemies in the Beta

The second beta for Marvel’s Avengers just launched this weekend with some players able to access the beta a bit earlier then scheduled. The content of the beta is largely the same, leading to some concerns from players that developer Crsytal Dynamics wants to lay to rest.

Speaking about Marvel’s Avengers in an interview with website PlayStation Trophies, Lead Combat Designer Vince Napoli discussed concern over the lack of enemy variety. The second beta, like the first, largely focuses on robots, mechs, and agents for players to take down and while the beta is limited, the concern is how that aspect will be addressed in the final game.

Now open to PC, PS4 and, Xbox One, the second beta is strictly for those who pre-ordered the game on PC and Xbox One, but is open to PS4 players. Napoli states that beta is level limited with enemy types being being impacted by region, specific location, and player level meaning that as one progresses through the final game, enemy variety will consistently depend on those three factors. The current beta is limited to specific missions and has a level cap meaning players aren’t meant to see all enemy types, costumes, or purchase any microtransactions as of yet. Napoli reassures that the final game has a lot more variety in enemies.

As with many betas and demos of games, the first beta for Marvel’s Avengers has been datamined and details of new characters both confirmed and unconfirmed characters have been leaked. While Spider-man has already been confirmed as a PlayStation exclusive character, the rumors suggest that War Machine, She-Hulk, and Captain Marvel will eventually be added to the game as DLC.

Meanwhile, Crystal Dynamics has released patch notes for Marvel’s Avengers, addressing bugs and glitches found in the beta that will be fixed in round 2. Not all the discovered issues will be taken care of as the patch notes indicate some issues remain in round 2 of the beta and are still  being addressed. General feedback from fans have also been addressed with screen shaking during gameplay being limited and some UI improvements implemented.

Recently, Crystal Dynamics announced the use of Denuvo DRM in Marvel’s Avengers to combat cheating and hacking in the final game. The technology has been used in many PC games acting as an anti-piracy tool though not without criticism from fans, the technology can several impact game performance and requiring an internet connection.

Marvel’s Avengers launches September 4th on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
