As far as virtual reality games go, Phantom: Covert Ops has one of the more unique premises. The game is essentially Metal Gear Solid in a kayak, complete with Solid Snake’s David Hayter providing some voice acting work, and it has been mostly well-received by the VR community. Now the developers are expanding on the Phantom: Covert Ops content with the release of the new Challenge Pack 1 update.
The Challenge Pack 1 update for Phantom: Covert Ops is available to download now for both Oculus Quest and Rift. It adds new challenges for fans to complete: Broadside is a shooting range with the SV-54 Assault Rifle, Loose Cannon lets players use an infinite ammo grenade launcher, Powder Keg is about getting explosive headshots, Target Hunt is about shooting cardboard cut-outs, and finally, Unfathomable is a time trial with reversed controls.
While the addition of new challenges is the main draw for the new Phantom: Covert Ops update, it also makes some quality-of-life improvements as well, including a slew of bug fixes. It has also added information on how to unlock the various cheats that players can earn in Phantom: Covert Ops, which should give fans a little more direction after they have completed the main story.
The story actually ended on a cliffhanger, so here’s hoping the developers are able to continue it either in future DLC or a full-fledged sequel.
In our Phantom: Covert Ops review, we praised the game for being a unique twist on the stealth-action genre, and so it’s definitely nice to see it get some more content regardless.
Phantom: Covert Ops is available now for Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift.
