Grand Theft Auto 6’s Vice City Location Seems More Like by the Day

Waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6 news is a patient affair. The last and most popular entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto 5, has been out for almost seven years now, not counting any re-releases. Now fans know that before they’ll get a taste of the next entry in the franchise, the San Andreas playground will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X next year. While Grand Theft Auto 5 will be San Andreas’ swan song for a while, fans are still wondering where the next Grand Theft Auto will take place.

The prevailing rumor is that soon players will get to return to Rockstar’s perverted version of the Sunshine State. Frankly it makes a lot of sense to return to Vice City after all this time, and with all the rumors surrounding the idea, it’ll probably happen. Rumors and leaks aren’t usually as prevalent with Rockstar Games, so when information does come out, it’s usually enough of a hint to garner speculation. With the sheer amount of rumors/leaks that have mentioned, Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely return to Vice City whenever the game actually releases.

For all of the rumors and leaks surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6, the consensus seems to be that the next game will take place in Vice City. As far back as 2015, there have been rumblings about the sixth game’s development with various rumors. Everything from multiple time periods, a female and male protagonist, as well as the setting have been part of leaks involving Grand Theft Auto 6. While many rumors have stated some extraneous details, like how Grand Theft Auto 6 may encompass multiple cities as well as Vice City, it’s still true that Vice City is the most prominent detail of them all.

It’d be one thing if there were several rumors noting other specific locations in the Grand Theft Auto universe, but save for a few exceptions, practically every rumor points to the Miami-like Vice City. It was the same deal in the lead up to Grand Theft Auto 5, which was heavily rumored and eventually confirmed to take place in Los Santos/San Andreas. Plus, considering the last few mainline Grand Theft Auto games that released, fans would be right to assume the Vice City setting.

With the last two mainline Grand Theft Auto games taking place in two of the three iconic cities in the series, Vice City would theoretically be next for Grand Theft Auto 6. It’s not entirely accurate to assume Grand Theft Auto settings release on a rotating three-city cycle, but for the last six mainline releases since Grand Theft Auto 3, that’s been the case. When the PS3/Xbox 360 released, rather than moving beyond the previous settings (Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas), Grand Theft Auto 4 took place in Liberty City once again.

Technically Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas were spin-offs from Grand Theft Auto 3, so it is possible that subsequent entries could focus on different cities. San Andreas alone had two additional cities and three different regions that could appear in a mainline game. That being said, Grand Theft Auto 4 and returned to the last two cities that were spin-offs previously. Even as mainline titles, neither of which received any kind of major criticisms for returning to a city previously visited by the franchise before. It’s a safe bet to assume Rockstar would like to continue that momentum moving into the next-generation.

There’s certainly the possibility that Grand Theft Auto 6 could explore other settings and time periods. Two cities from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, San Fiero (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas), could still receive their own mainline releases later on. Not to mention any brand new locations for the series to explore. As for right now, it’s just not likely. There’s too many rumors and leaks, bogus or not, pointing to Vice City that it almost seems like a given for Grand Theft Auto 6. Plus, if Rockstar is going to put out two mainline Grand Theft Auto games returning to Liberty City and Los Santos, Vice City would be an appropriate follow-up.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly in development.
