The Last of Us 2 made a huge splash on its release, and the ripples continue to be felt. The best-selling game of June, it has remained one of the biggest sellers of July, and will likely stay that way for a few months more. From its production to the content of the game itself, there are a lot of things to talk about with this game.
With very little being known for most of its production, The Last of Us 2 was first delayed, then largely spoiled through leaked footage before its release. Controversy has arisen based on several things in the game, from character traits to story beats. There have also been questions about the game’s production, and what went into making it. At the end of the day, and after all of this, many players still question: is The Last of Us 2 good?
This was the question that Tom from Toonami set out to answer. For those who don’t know, Toonami was originally a programming block of more adult cartoon shows on Cartoon Network. It was re-named, then canceled after a while, but brought back fairly recently. Many of the shows once originally shown in America on Toonami are available on Hulu or other sources these days, and new shows are shown on it now. The shows are linked together by short segments with the virtual host Tom. During Toonami’s heyday, Tom would sometimes review video games in short segments between shows. Now such a review has dropped for The Last of Us 2.
The review is very short, which is to be expected given Toonami’s format. It covers the essentials in broad strokes, including story essentials. A couple famous quotes about revenge are dropped, both being accurate. Revenge, after all, plays a big part in Ellie’s evolution in the game, which is one of its biggest draws.
The review focuses a bit on the absolutely brutal fights in The Last of Us 2, but doesn’t go into too much detail about the actual gameplay of them. Players know today how much went into those fights thanks to one of the stuntwomen talking about how they were filmed. It’s part of what makes the game so gorgeous even when it’s violent. The beauty of the game’s graphics is something talked about, which is unsurprising.
According to Tom at least, The Last of Us 2 is a perfect 10, and a game worth playing more than once. So any players who trust Tom may want to give The Last of Us 2 a couple tries. Maybe there are some things about Ellie players haven’t picked up on yet.
The Last of Us 2 is out for PS4.
