Apex Legends Season 6 has officially begun, meaning most fans are probably already feverishly playing it right now to unlock all the new rewards from its Battle Pass as soon as possible.
For anyone who has yet to jump in, though, and would rather know what they’re getting into beforehand, EA has provided a full list of updates, additions, and changes that have gone live in Apex Legends, just so everyone can be up to speed.
Firstly, the World’s Edge map has undergone several changes due to Hammond Robotics seeking to upgrade it for nebulous but likely nefarious reasons. Some of the changes include new POIs, like the mysterious Countdown facility, and the train has been dismantled, allowing players to maneuver through the tunnels.
Next, and arguably the biggest inclusion, is the new playable Legend: Rampart. A 21-year-old British Indian, private business owner, Rampart is armed with modded shields and a mounted mini-gun which she calls Sheila. She can build crouch-cover walls to protect herself and allies and her passive ability means she has increased magazine capacity and faster reloads when using certain weapons.
With her being a new addition, she’s likely to be a popular choice for the time being, so developer Respawn has shared tips for how to best counter this defense oriented character.
Alongside her comes a new weapon: the Volt SMG. It fires a salvo of energy-based ammunition, making it possible for players to hit multiple opponents at once within a short window.
The other major addition to Apex Legends, and one that could have a major impact on the game’s meta, is the new crafting system. With the materials obtained from loot bins or material stations, players can bring them to the new Replicators, which will use those materials to make loot. There will always be eight different pieces of loot available, with some of them to be regularly rotated out on a weekly or daily basis.
Lastly, Respawn has greatly changed the way armor works. All armor, with the exception of Gold Armor, is now Evo Armor. Players will also now spawn with level 0 Evo Armor, which can be automatically upgraded all the way up to Red Armor if players can deal enough damage. Gold Armor, however, can still only be acquired by finding it in rare locations.
Armor health has also been lowered by 25. So, for example, Purple and Gold Armor have 175 health instead of 200 and Red Armor has 200 health and not 225.
A far more detailed breakdown of the updates, as well as a list of general fixes, patches, and buffs to Legends, loot etc. can be found on the official website.
Apex Legends is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
