Steam Players Want Microsoft Flight Simulator Refund Time Extended

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is already stunning plenty of players in one of the most unexpected releases this year. The reviews for Microsoft Flight Simulator are incredibly positive from critics across the industry, and many players as well.

One of the main draws of Microsoft Flight Simulator is that the game is astonishingly gorgeous when playing on the best settings. Unfortunately, some fans are discovering that the game’s file size is huge because of all its assets, and are now asking for Steam to extend its refund window.

Many Microsoft players have had their eyes on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 since it was first announced. The game appeals even more to those players who are able to run the game on the most advanced hardware at the highest specs. At least somewhat surprisingly, it’s already one of the year’s top-rated games, with many critics praising the game’s graphics and realism when it comes to aviation and piloting planes. However, that sense of realism and high-end assets come with a pretty significant toll.

The Steam download size for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 requires around 150 GBs of free space. Additionally, if players don’t have high-speed internet or even reliable internet, that download is going to take quite some time. Now, some Steam players are asking for Steam to extend the refund period for the game over the original two hours, since a bulk of the installation process happens through the in-game launcher. Steam gets large numbers of refund requests every day, but this situation is a bit different than most others.

The issues arise because the installation process through the in-game launcher counts toward total playtime, meaning that even if a player only spent three hours waiting for the installation process to complete, those three hours would technically be counted as playtime. Many frustrated players are taking to social media and Steam reviews to vent their frustrations over this issue, with many Steam users requesting refund extensions. The game currently has mixed reviews on Steam as a result of fans upset with the process, so it’s likely that the issue will be addressed in some fashion sooner rather than later.

Refunding games through online storefronts can unfortunately be a tricky business. Steam’s policy dictates that games can be refunded within the first 14 days of purchase only if the game was played for less than two hours. This is because the company wants to make sure players aren’t returning games they’ve already beaten or played the majority of. Epic Games even implemented Steam’s refund policy last year because of how effective it was, and while this issue with Flight Simulator is frustrating, it will hopefully be resolved in some way soon.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is available now on PC, with an Xbox One version in development.
