Earlier this year, studio LKA announced the new World War 2 era horror game Martha is Dead, which was supposedly coming to PS5 with photo-realistic graphics as well as PC. However, it seems plans have changed. A new trailer for Martha is Dead now claims that the game is coming to PC and Xbox Series X in 2021, with no mention of the previously-announced PlayStation 5 version.
The new Martha is Dead trailer comes from IGN’s new coverage of the game, though there’s no mention of why the PS5 version has seemingly been left by the wayside. The game’s Twitter account also has no mention of PS5, with only the PC and Xbox Series X versions mentioned in the bio. It’s possible that some kind of exclusivity deal was reached, but it’s also possible that the developers simply prefer the Xbox Series X hardware. Or maybe the decision was made for entirely different reasons. Until LKA addresses the situation, all fans can do is speculate.
Whatever the case may be, this revelation came with a new Martha is Dead trailer, and it’s rather gruesome. The trailer shows the corpse of a woman washed up on the beach, with someone cutting her face off and then wearing it as their own. Needless to say, Martha is Dead is a horror game through and through.
Prior to Martha is Dead, studio LKA created the psychological horror game The Town of Light. The Town of Light earned mixed reviews at the time of its release, but there were some that praised the game for its focus on mental health issues and its effective scares. If Martha is Dead is able to deliver a similar experience while addressing some of the concerns that critics had about the studio’s previous work, then it could very well be one of the top horror games of next year.
Martha is Dead is just one of many horror games that have been confirmed for next-generation platforms, and the latest to be revealed as an Xbox Series X console exclusive. Previously, it was announced that Bloober Team’s The Medium would be an Xbox Series X console exclusive, and the upcoming Scorn is also going to be exclusive to the platform. For one reason or another, horror developers appear to be flocking to the Xbox Series X, and so fans of the genre may very well want to consider picking up the new console.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has so far kept quiet about the Xbox Series X price and release date, so it’s unclear when horror fans will be able to get their hands on the new system. Hopefully more information comes sooner rather than later, but in the meantime, it will be interesting to see if even more horror games are announced for it.
Martha is Dead will launch in 2021 for PC and Xbox Series X.
