The Metal Gear Solid board game has kept fans waiting for two years already, and now plans to go for three before actually releasing. IDW Games, the game’s publisher, just announced that it would be delaying it once again. The game will now release sometime in the summer of 2021. The exact date is unknown.
This isn’t the first time IDW’s Metal Gear Solid board game has seen a delay. The game was originally supposed to release in 2019, but in November of that year, IDW announced that it would be pushing the game back to summer 2020. In its explanation for the game’s delay, IDW said that it wanted more time to polish it.
The company provided a similar reason for the current delay. It feels it hasn’t achieved the vision that acclaimed Spector Ops designer Emerson Matsuuchi has in mind. IDW Games says that it will take as long as it needs to make Matsuuchi’s vision a reality. However, it also assures fans that this will be the last delay for its Metal Gear Solid project, as the game has entered its final stages of playtesting.
Unfortunately, the game’s final pricing also went up. Now it’s 125 dollars instead of the original 109. However, anyone that paid the 109 when pre-ordering the game won’t have to pay the additional 16 dollars. Those who pre-ordered will all receive an invite to the play the virtual edition of Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game. IDW also says that it will have more updates in the future months.
