Annapurna Interactive May Be Teasing New Unfinished Swan Game

There were quite a few games that flew under most gamers’ radars in the latter years of the PlayStation 3’s lifespan. Among the PS3’s hidden gems is The Unfinished Swan, a first-person adventure game that managed to attract some critical acclaim when it first came out but has since been largely forgotten. But maybe not for much longer, because Annapurna Interactive may be teasing a return in some form.

Indie studio Giant Sparrow may be best known for the award-winning What Remains of Edith Finch, but it got its start with emotionally-heavy story-based titles began with this 2012 debut, which told the tale of a young boy who enters a strange world in pursuit of the subject of one of his deceased mother’s paintings, a swan with no neck. The game is best known for its opening section, in which players begin in a blank white space and must throw blobs of ink to reveal the level’s terrain.

These ink blobs are similar to the one Annapurna shared an image of in a cryptic tweet yesterday. Now while Annapurna didn’t publish The Unfinished Swan (that was Sony Computer Entertainment), it did publish Edith Finch. That has fans thinking it’s collaborating with the developer again to revive the game, though at this time it’s impossible to tell if this is supposed to be teasing a new port of the original or a full-on sequel, if it even has anything to do with the game.

Annapurna already has a track record of bringing Sony-published indie games to non-PlayStation systems, having ported fellow indie hits Flower and Journey to PC. As such, it’s very well within the realm of possibility for it to have gotten the rights to do the same for The Unfinished Swan.

The Unfinished Swan is available for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.
