For those who may not know, Best Buy offers financing plans for its more expensive products, including video game consoles. Now it’s offering financing plans on its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X pages that could very well reveal how much the next-generation consoles will cost, or at least give fans a better idea of what to expect.
As discovered by DualShockers, Best Buy has an 18 month financing offer for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on the consoles’ online pages. The offer is for products that are “$499 and up,” suggesting that the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles will cost at least $499. Most analysts seem to agree that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will cost somewhere in the $499 to $600 range, so this makes sense.
However, it’s worth pointing out that this price could very well just be a placeholder. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have announced the prices for their next-generation consoles, and in fact, it’s possible that the prices haven’t actually been finalized. Both companies could be waiting for the other to announce their price point so that they can undercut the competition, and if so, it’s unlikely that retailers would know the price points.
Regardless, $499 is a pretty safe bet for how much the next-generation consoles will cost, and it’s almost guaranteed that they will fall in that price range. Of course, there could always be bundles that drive the price up. Maybe there will be a PS5 bundle that includes a game or an extra controller, and maybe there will be an Xbox Series X bundle that comes with a Game Pass subscription. Of course, there’s also the digital-only versions of the consoles to take into account as well.
While the Xbox Series X all-digital console has yet to be announced, Sony has already revealed the all-digital PS5, which, as its name implies, will only play digital games and won’t accept discs. It’s assumed that this version of the PS5 will be cheaper, which would make sense when one considers that it’s lacking a disc drive. The all-digital Xbox Series X that’s rumored would presumably be available for a lower price point as well.
But until Microsoft and Sony decide to reveal official price points, all of this is just speculation. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are expected to launch this holiday season, with the Xbox Series X releasing in November, and so specific release dates and pricing information should come sooner rather than later.
