It’s been a big day for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Now fully revealed, the game got its turn in the spotlight after running players through a special Warzone game, which ended with a new reveal trailer. And while that trailer was jam-packed with all sorts of new details about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s campaign, it also had something special for multiplayer fans.
That little something special was the first look at Cold War’s multiplayer mode, including one 0f the game’s maps. It’s a desert region, with large sand dunes scattered about and a long canyon corridor seemingly servings as a lane. The gameplay tidbit is brief, only lasting about 10 seconds, but it does show what to expect from the full reveal.
The gameplay clip features players driving around the dune, being fired at by a Chopper Gunner, a staple in the Call of Duty franchise. Somewhat surprising is the size of the map, which has no clear boundary judging off the video, as the dunes simply seem to roll on forever. While the number of vehicles on the map at once seems to be a break from tradition for Call of Duty multiplayer, not including Modern Warafare’s Ground War mode, it’s otherwise fairly standard Call of Duty.
The reveal confirms at least some of the Cold War multiplayer leaks that circulated yesterday. Specifically, the leak confirmed the existence of the desert map seen today, as well as the Chopper Gunner killstreak returning, which gives the other information in the leak far more credence. However, Treyarch hasn’t confirmed the other information yet, and development plans do change, so the leak should still be taken with a grain of salt.
Fans will get to see more of it soon, as Cold War is promising a full multiplayer reveal on September 9, two weeks from now. That’s not long to wait, and with the game launching November 13, fans don’t have much time between the reveal and getting to play. Plus, there’s going to be a beta for the game, so fans will get a taste well before it launches.
The footage was captured on a PlayStation 5, which does show fans what next-gen games will be capable of early-on. Call of Duty is usually one of the more graphically-impressive franchises out there, so this is likely going to be one of the sharper early games on the system. Of course, fans will have to wait until they get their hands on it to really be sure.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will launch on November 13.
