Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League – 10 Details You Missed In The Trailer

During the DC FanDome convention, the first trailer to the upcoming game, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, was shown and gave fans a lot to look forward to. This upcoming game brings Suicide Squad members Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark together in order to face against the Justice League, who are being controlled by Brainiac.

A lot went down in the action packed trailer and it was easy for fans to miss stuff. There has also been a ton of information revealed that was not shown in the trailer. Here are 10 details about Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League that fans may have missed.

10 Connection To Batman: Arkham

Though the trailer does little to indicate this other than a few references that the games have in common, this new game is actually part of the Batman: Arkham franchise. Little is known about how they’re connected but it has been confirmed that this game would be a continuation to the series. Fans thought that Gotham Knights, another game announced during DC FanDome, would connect to the series due to the similarities that the game has in common with the ending of Batman: Arkham Knight. It’ll be interesting to see how the new title continues the plot of the critically acclaimed franchise.

9 Captain Boomerang’s Super Speed

George “Digger” Harkness is the most well known Captain Boomerang. However, for a brief period of time, his son took over the role. Owen Mercer, Digger’s son, has super speed bursts. However, his father does not possess this power. In the trailer, Captain Boomerang uses super speed in battle. Though Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League‘s Captain Boomerang appears to be Digger, perhaps Rocksteady decided to use Owen, or this may be the developers’ own version of Digger and they decided to give his his son’s powers. Either way, this power will certainly make Captain Boomerang more fun to play as.

8 Deadshot’s Appearance

Knowing that Batman: Arkham is connected to this game, it is interesting to see that Deadshot looks incredibly different in the trailer compared to his design in the other titles. In previous installments, as well as most versions of the character, Deadshot is Caucasian. In Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, he is African American. Even if this retcons other titles in the series, it’s great to see more diversity and inclusion in entertainment. Besides, this isn’t the first time a character’s appearance has changed between Batman: Arkham games. Unlike Captain Boomerang, Deadshot has always been Floyd Lawton so it’s unlikely that this version of Deadshot is a different character than the one from previous installments.

7 LexCorp And Daily Planet

Popular locations from DC’s universe, LexCorp and Daily Planet, are both shown in the trailer. The Daily Planet is a newspaper publication that has been owned by both Lex Luthor, one of Superman’s greatest opponents, and Bruce Wayne. It is also where Superman works when he isn’t saving the world (or in this game, killing people). LexCorp is a huge company also owned by Lex Luthor.

Perhaps these locations are shown in the trailer to subtly let fans know that Brainiac will not be the only antagonist that’ll play a significant role in the upcoming game. It would be really interesting to see the role Lex Luthor would play due to Brainiac’s control over Superman.

6 Penguin May Be In The Game

Another antagonist that may make an appearance is Penguin. Several references in the trailer link back to Penguin in the Batman: Arkham series. The Street Demonz logo made an appearance. Street Demonz is a motorcycle gang from Gotham and the members played a small role in Batman: Arkham Knight, working for Penguin. Another reference is North Refrigeration, the company that Penguin made up in order to export weapons. If Penguin and the Street Demonz are in the game, it will be really interesting to see what they’ve been up to all this time as well as why they’re in Metropolis.

5 Other DC Locations

Like LexCorp and Daily Planet, other popular DC locations are shown throughout the trailer. Big Belly Burger, for example, is a chain of fast food restaurants that have been in the Batman: Arkham games. A sign promoting the restaurant can be seen multiple times in the trailer. Sundollar Coffee is a chain of coffeehouses that are inspired by Starbucks. Blaze Comics is a comic publication in DC titles that also made an appearance. These small references show how much Rocksteady cares about the fine details in DC’s universe and how they’re bringing it to the next generation of gaming.

4 Superman Flies By When You’re Having Fun

Fans that saw the trailer were very excited to see Superman’s appearance, especially due to the reveal of him being taken over by Brainiac. However, prior to this, Superman can actually be spotted earlier in the trailer.

He can easily be missed since he is far away and only on screen for a second. When Deadshot turns around to tell King Shark, as well as Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang, that he never misses a shot, Superman can be seen flying in the background. Exactly what Brainiac was using him for prior to his encounter with the Suicide Squad is up for speculation but he probably wasn’t up to any justice.

3 Popped Balloons

While the Suicide Squad members are talking to each other prior to the action, King Shark is sitting beside two balloons, each of a Justice League member’s symbol. These two balloons reference Batman and Green Lantern. It was easy to miss the Green Lantern balloon due to it being in the background and King Shark popping it seconds after it appears. What these balloons may be telling us is up for speculation at this time but they may be a clue to something important. Knowing what happened to Batman at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight may give theorists a sign to Green Lantern’s role in the game.

2 Gameplay

The trailer only showed a bit of the story but details on the gameplay have also been revealed. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has been confirmed to be a mix between a shooter an an action-adventure game set in an open world. Each character will have a long distance ranged weapon as indicated by some of the weapons the trailer showed. Players can choose to play on their own and swap between Suicide Squad members when they want to or they can play with their friends. This has fans thinking that the game will be very similar to the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers.

1 A Long Time Coming

Though Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League probably was not even thought of until recent years, an idea for a game that focuses on the team has been under consideration for over a decade. In 2010, Geoff Johns announced that a Suicide Squad game was in development. Throughout Batman: Arkham titles since, there were signs that a Suicide Squad game would release. Though the game that Johns mentioned probably has little or nothing to do with Rocksteady’s creation, the upcoming game may not have even been thought of if that game had been released.
