Gunfight Tournaments are back for a limited time in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The fan favorite, tournament-style game mode is officially available for free access from August 28th to September 2nd. All players will be able to enjoy the playlist, no matter what version of Modern Warfare they own.
It’s been a massive week for Call of Duty fans. From enjoying new content in the Season 5 Reloaded Update, to the official in-game reveal of Black Ops Cold War, players have been overloaded with exciting events and updates within the blockbuster title. Among numerous updates in Season 5 Reloaded, Gunfight Tournaments is making a return to Modern Warfare after a brief hiatus.
Gunfight Tournaments is a competitive, tournament-style game mode where players face off in a 2v2 format, played only on a small maps such as Docks and the infamous Gulag Showers. Players must win their match-up to progress to the next round, and will be crowned champions if they are able to win all four rounds. In the past, Gunfight Tournaments has only been available to players that own the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This time around, Infinity Ward is offering free access to all players, such as those who only have the free-to-play Warzone version. Infinity Ward has offered a free Modern Warfare multiplayer access weekend in the past, prompting more Warzone-only players to try the multiplayer modes. It seems that the same idea is present with free access to Gunfight Tournaments, which will be available for five full days.
While many players will be very familiar with the Gunfight Tournament format, a new twist is added with the addition of the Stadium map. Following the Season 5 Update and opening of Stadium, there is now a dedicated Gunfight version of Stadium available in the playlist. Stadium is of course a colossal part of the Verdansk map, so the Gunfight version is condensed to a small, two-sided map with plenty of cover for teams to duke it out on.
Gunfight Tournaments are surely a source of excitement for many players that did not get a shot at winning the final round when the playlist was previously available a couple months ago. Although the rewards were high-tier during the last feature, the playlist was muddled with matchmaking errors that left players disconnected from a tournament even if they had won a round. Hopefully Infinity Ward has snuffed out the connection bugs and players will be able to enjoy this competitive playlist for the full free access period.
There is a lot for Modern Warfare players to look forward to as the weekend begins. “Games of Summer” also begins today and many players will still be catching up on the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War release details. Look out for more game mode information on all the action this weekend through Activision’s blog.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
