As League of Legends continues to move towards the end of Season 10, the MOBA’s appeal keeps growing worldwide. However, recent toxicity in the community has forced Riot Games to make some changes to fix LoL‘s solo queue. The first few plans targeted players who engaged in bad behavior, but one of the next updates is aimed to help teammates affected by toxic individuals.
Practically everyone who plays ranked eventually finds some teammates who try to sabotage the game by AFKing or even leaving if they feel unsatisfied. While this behavior was uncommon in earlier League of Legends seasons, it has become much more prevalent in 2020, and most teams then lose the 4v5. Even if the individual is later punished, the majority of players are frustrated that they have to suffer the consequences but an upcoming change finally addresses the LP loss.
Although it won’t be coming anytime soon, Riot will be implementing a system that reduces LP lost from ranked defeats if a player going AFK or leaving is detected when the match ends. But the Behavioral Systems team is aware how this could be abused, so it specifically stated that intimidating a teammate into leaving towards the end of a game won’t trigger the LP mitigation. Nevertheless, the Riot devs are confident both leavers and stray AFK cases like power outages will compensate players on the losing team.
Since the reduced LP loss system is set to come out in Patch 10.24, it will be a 2-3 month wait because League of Legends Worlds 2020 and Season 10’s final ranked split have to wrap up first. In the end, this change won’t magically boost players to Diamond, but it should help them stay closer to their true tier while lessening the frustration of games where someone directly or indirectly leaves.
