Yesterday saw the 2020 Call of Duty League (CDL) Championship Weekend wrap up, bringing an end to an intense two-day competition where teams of top players fought it out for fame, cash, and a literal throne. In celebrating the event’s finale, however, it looks like Activision may have let slip a potentially serious change that might be coming soon to Call of Duty: Warzone.
A game like Call of Duty: Warzone is changing constantly, and the current Season 5 has seen some of the biggest changes to the game’s battle royale map yet. The once closed Stadium is now open for gunfights, and a train full of loot is traveling around the map, thwarting all attempts from Warzone’s players to stop it. More changes are bound to follow in future seasons, and it’s looking more and more like one of the first to arrive will be a subway system.
Rumors emerged this month that the next season of Warzone will open up Verdansk’s metro subways, providing players with another way to get around the map. Said rumors claim Season 6 will add seven subway stations to the map, with one of these stops supposedly being the Stadium. During the CDL Championship broadcast this weekend, viewers spotted a structure that’s not currently in the game, one that definitely looks like it could be that subway station.
It’s possible that this wasn’t a fluke either, as a GIF that the official CDL Twitter account shared congratulating the Dallas Empire’s win at the Championship event featured the same shot, mystery structure included. From the looks of it, this could potentially count as the first official tease of Warzone Season 6, regardless of whether it was intended to be or not.
A new metro subway system could be a major addition to the map, but it’s not the only change that might show up in the near future. Among the game’s many recent leaks are claims that Warzone is getting a night-based map, courtesy of datamined files allegedly pointing to the existence of a mode called “Nightfall.”
Of course, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt until Activision says something official. That being said, it’s safe to say that Warzone is shaping up to see some pretty big changes in the coming months, especially once the game starts to run alongside the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
