Rumored Super Mario Switch Remasters Possibly Delayed | Game Rant

2020 marks the 35th anniversary of the beloved of the Super Mario franchise, and players have been anticipating a major announcement from Nintendo since the year started. While many were pleasantly surprised when Paper Mario: The Origami King was announced earlier this year, others were hoping for something a little more in line with a proper Mario title to celebrate the famous plumber’s career.

These hopes come from a prior rumor that suggested that Nintendo would be releasing a 3D Super Mario Collection later this year as part of the 35th-anniversary celebration. According to this rumor, the collection would feature fully remastered versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch.

According to the original leak, the collection was initially supposed to be announced as part of Nintendo’s June E3 showcase and launch in September of this year to coincide with the Super Mario series’ actual anniversary. However, now it seems that it may have been delayed, most likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Nintendo podcaster and reliable leaker, Nate the Hate, the remasters will now most likely be released during the holiday season.

Along with this information for the Super Mario Remaster Collection, Nate went on to discuss another leak regarding the Super Mario 3D World Switch port. According to Nate, 3D World Deluxe was initially slated to launch shortly after the 3D remasters in either October or November. Now it seems that the port has been pushed out of 2020 altogether with a likely new release window of January 2021.

While all of this information is currently just hearsay, Nate has proven himself to be an incredibly reliable source in the past. He recently divulged information about both the Nintendo Direct Mini as well as the August Indie World Showcase. The information he has provided also seems to line up with a recent rumor that players could see the announcement for this 3D Super Mario collection as early as this week.

Hopefully, news of these 3D remasters will come sooner rather than later. Currently, Nintendo’s star player for the holiday season roster is Pikmin 3 Deluxe, a port of the Wii U version that was announced to less than stellar reception. Bundle that with players’ lukewarm reactions to the most recent Nintendo Direct Minis, and it’s easy to see why fans are upset about the current state of their favorite studio. Unless Nintendo comes through with a full Direct soon, Nintendo fans may be looking at a very empty holiday.
