It’s believed that Nintendo had big plans for this year to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise; plans which have been horrendously derailed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and both Super Mario Galaxy games have been heavily rumored for months now and, more recently, it’s believed that they’ve been delayed to release closer to Christmas.
In addition, there has been quite a bit of Super Mario merchandise released throughout the year so far, such as Lego sets and themed Jenga and Monopoly games, and it looks as if there’s still more to come.
Earlier today, a product page for a pair of Mario-themed PUMA brand sneakers was spotted on sportswear retailer Foot Locker’s website. The page has been taken down, but images of the sneakers were saved beforehand.
Aside from the red and blue coloring that matches Mario, we can see the Super Mario logo written across the tongue and a little Starman on the back.
When they will actually become available for purchase is unknown, but we can maybe expect them to release later this month to coincide with the anniversary, which is on September 13th.
Nintendo fans have grown frustrated with the company this year due to a lack of many new game announcements, constantly wondering when the next major Nintendo Direct will be. This doesn’t appear to have hurt Nintendo, though. In fact, the company has been enjoying a very successful year and is now the richest company in Japan, mostly thanks to the sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
