Microsoft Flight Simulator Patch Fixes Installation Issues

Since Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 released last month, users have largely been enjoying the opportunity to soar across a photorealistic rendition of the Earth. However, the game is not without its issues, and players are taking the initiative to fix weird or erroneous landmarks. There have also been problems with installation and stability that the developers are addressing with a patch.

Patch 1.7.14.0, released at 10 a.m. PDT today, makes it so Microsoft Flight Simulator will not crash when certain input devices are disconnected, or when the “TBM 930 package” is deleted, according to its patch notes. It also stops the install process from being blocked due to a number of issues including partial decompression of packagets, the use of non-ASCII characters in account names, and if there are server connection issues.

Other issues have also been addressed by this patch, such as improved performance when players activate the “Display name plate” option, and making sure the marketplace where users can sell content like mods displays the correct currency. Installation problems are the primary target, however, and the development team “strongly advise” players to do a clean install of the game if they previously experienced issues.

These fixes do not encompass all of the problems in Microsoft Flight Simulator, as reports have also suggested players get stuck on loading screens or receive “please wait” errors. Despite this, there is still plenty of fun to be had with the simulator, as seen by users visiting places like the original Windows XP background locale.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is available now on PC, with an Xbox One version in development.
