Many fans of the Pokemon franchise were excited to hear that Pokemon GO would be bringing Mega Evolution to the game. However, once players saw how the mechanic was used in the mobile app, the fan response was not so positive.
Fans can Mega Evolve their Pokemon in Pokemon GO by using Mega Energy, which can be collected through Special Research tasks and Mega Raids that will be scattered throughout the game. The Mega Raids give more Mega Energy the faster that players can take down the raid, and while that doesn’t net fans a lot of Mega Energy, they are less limited than the preset amount of Special Research tasks available. However, Pokemon GO trainers feel that the work they put into gathering this energy isn’t worth the impact of Mega Evolution in the game.
After going through the various methods of obtaining Mega Energy, players can cause certain Pokemon such as Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard, and Beedrill to Mega Evolve. However, the Pokemon will only remain in that state for a certain amount of time. While this may give an added boost to their Pokemon’s power, it will only last for four hours. Many fans are protesting that the effect lasts for such a short time, especially with all the time, effort, and real-world currency that goes into collecting Mega Energy.
It seems that the concerns of these Pokemon GO trainers aren’t falling on deaf ears. Niantic has spoken up about this topic, replying to a Reddit thread discussing the issue. Niantic has let fans know that it is listening to everything that players have to say about the Mega Evolution mechanic — both the good and the bad. The gaming company said that it is currently working to improve the Mega Evolution system in Pokemon GO with fans’ feedback in mind. Since this is still a new mechanic, Niantic is still working to make sure it works for the community. However, the company also said that it doesn’t have a set time yet that fans can expect to see these changes in the game.
While these changes are being made, there are other interesting events to look forward to during the month of September. Players collectively have the chance to unlock Mega Houndoom, Mega Gengar, and Mega Pidgeot through battling in various settings and interesting new Field Research tasks that trainers can embark on. Hopefully the new changes Niantic proposes to the game will be happening in time to impact these events.
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
