Gearbox Software has consistently had a major presence at PAX events, and even with physical PAX events canceled this year, the company will still be hosting a special digital showcase as part of PAX Online. On September 12 at 12:45pm PT, Gearbox will be showcasing its future games, calling out the Borderlands franchise specifically.
What exactly Gearbox will announce or show off at PAX remains to be seen. September 12 is two days after the release of the last Borderlands 3 DLC, and so it’s possible that it will use PAX Online to announce future BL3 DLC plans. Maybe the game has a second season pass waiting in the wings, or maybe Gearbox has other plans for it. It also wouldn’t be all that surprising if Gearbox announced PS5 and Xbox Series X ports of Borderlands 3, especially since the next-generation consoles are set to launch in just a couple of months’ time.
But while Borderlands will be featured during PAX Online, Gearbox also said that it will be showing what’s next from its publishing branch. As it so happens, Gearbox is publishing the upcoming PlayStation 5 console exclusive game Godfall, which has been described as a looter-slasher and has generated a decent amount of hype. It’s quite possible that Godfall will be featured during the PAX Online event, and if so, hopefully fans get to see more gameplay than the brief Godfall gameplay teaser that was shown at Gamescom.
Besides Godfall, Gearbox is also publishing Tribes of Midgard in 2021, and Homeworld 3 in Q4 of 2022. It’s possible that one or both of those games will also be shown at PAX Online, with Tribes of Midgard being the more likely scenario. Similarly to Godfall, Tribes of Midgard is looking to launch on PlayStation 5, so that may generate a bit more interest in the title.
Of course, it’s also possible that Gearbox will have some surprise announcements up its sleeve in regards to some of the other franchises it owns. Fans have been waiting years to learn of a new Brothers in Arms game, plus Gearbox also owns the rights to the Duke Nukem franchise. Gearbox hasn’t done much with Duke Nukem since releasing the long-in-development Duke Nukem Forever, and so both franchises are overdue for new games.
Really Gearbox Software could announce just about anything at the PAX Online digital showcase event. Borderlands fans and those who enjoy Gearbox Software’s published titles should definitely be sure to tune in on September 12 at 12:45pm PT.
