Team Fortress 2 Players Come Up With Clever Way to Combat Cheaters

Team Fortress 2 still has a bustling community even though the game is almost 13 years old now. Obviously there’s a reason many consider it one of the most innovative and influential FPS games.

However, the Team Fortress 2 community is struggling to deal with cheaters as of late. Thankfully, it seems that some savvy members of the community have come up with a solution in the form of inserting cheater-targeting bots throughout matches.

While Valve has been good with supporting Team Fortress 2 over the years, the community has been equally on-the-ball with creating content for the game. One example of this is the Team Fortress 2 classic mod that launched in early July. The Team Fortress 2 community is filled with talented people who contribute fun content and mods to make the game even better. Unfortunately, there are also players who hop on Team Fortress 2 to cheat and cause general frustration among many players.

The community surrounding the game has vented frustrations with cheaters in the past, but now modders in the community have developed a new solution in the from of cheater-killing bots. The bots, labeled as “the extermination bot services,” are coded to exclusively seek out players who are cheating, focus on them, and kill them throughout a match. This isn’t the first time the Team Fortress 2 community has handled bots, but as opposed to the past instances of racist bots spouting hateful messages, these bots were made to rid the game of annoying cheaters. Regrettably, this solution isn’t without its problems.

The biggest issue is that Team Fortress 2 matches are currently filled with bots. While these bots are meant to exterminate cheaters, the fact remains that most matches are just filled to the brim with these bots. The solution appears to be a double-edged sword, as the bots apparently do their job of effectively targeting and cheaters but unfortunately, now Team Fortress 2 lobbies run the risk of simply being flooded with these bots. With any luck, Valve will roll out some type of update to Team Fortress 2 to weed out cheaters, but as of right now the community is taking matters into their own hands.

The cheating issue in Team Fortress 2 is still a glaring issue, but it wasn’t always the big problem that it currently is. There’s a reason that Team Fortress 2 is one of the highest rated free PC games of all time. Overall, the game is an extremely solid team-based first-person shooter that anyone can hop on and have fun with. It’s just a shame that a handful of the player base has to take some of that fun away by cheating.
