Crysis Remastered on Xbox One X Has Multiple Graphics Modes

After a substantial delay, Crysis Remastereds release date is almost here and Digital Foundry has taken a deep dive with a video of gameplay of it running on Xbox One X.

Crysis Remastered offers multiple graphic modes on the high-end Xbox with 3 very different goals. Unsurprisingly, the game takes advantage of the One X’s capabilities offering a 4K visual output with 30 frames-per-second for players who want to focus on a crisp visual look to the game, at the cost of the frame rate.

Alternatively, the option for 1080p with 60 frames-per-second is also available. The 1080p option still provides high-end visuals, but focuses on a smooth gameplay experience for the first-person shooter. A ray tracing option is available on the Xbox One X running through the software. The addition of ray tracing intends to boost the visual fidelity of the game significantly, competing with some of the best looking games this generation with very little cost to the frame rate.

Digital Foundry has said it will go into more detail about the performance of the game as Crysis 3’s release date draws nearer. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch owners have been enjoying the game since July, in a version of Crysis: Remastered that runs surprisingly well on the Nintendo console. Originally, Crysis Remastered was to come to all platforms in July, but the game was delayed due to some technical issues.

The return of Crysis was something of a surprise to fans after the official Crysis Twitter account began cryptically tweeting after being dormant for several years. Though many fans speculated a sequel was being teased, the reveal of a remake of the original game was still exciting for fans as the series had not seen a new game since 2013.

PC fans eager to play the game will have to ensure they have the Epic Games Store installed, as Crysis Remastered was recently announced as an EGS exclusive. Part of Epic’s push to have players migrate to the storefront, Crysis Remastered joins recently announced exclusives Hitman 3, Mortal Shell, and The Last Campfire.

Meanwhile, Crytek released the PC requirements for Crysis Remastered for those preparing for its upcoming release. While the game will look visually impressive on PC, most modern PCs should have no issue running the game. Once known to be a benchmark in visual fidelity in 2007, a renowned interest in the series could spark a Crysis sequel and the series may once again take that crown.
