5 Most Difficult Levels in Bloodborne (& The 5 Easiest Ones)

Bloodborne is FromSoft’s entry to PS4’s exclusive titles and was released in 2014. Since then, it’s been cited as one of the best video games of all time along with other FromSoft titles such as Dark Souls and Demon’s SoulsYears after its release, a plethora of fans are still talking about this game and a number of newcomers are still discovering and falling in love with it. One thing players really love about Bloodborne is its unforgiving gameplay and the dopamine-inducing feeling of satisfaction the game provides at every ounce of success.

Players, by now, know just how difficult this game can be. As a FromSoft game, this aspect really doesn’t come as a surprise. In Bloodborne, some levels are incredibly excruciating and some are a little bit more forgiving.

10 Difficult: Cathedral Ward

Cathedral Ward is essentially a point in the game a lot of players consider to be “the point of no return.” Once a player arrives at this location, they might as well see the game through to the end. On top of that, this is where the game really starts to dish out its more challenging enemies (outside of bosses).

From towering brutes to unrelenting hunters, players will encounter a wide array of tough enemies in this game. Enemies that have sent controllers flying and broken and minds and hopes shattered.

9 Easy: Central Yharnam

The earliest level in the game should be one of its easiest ones. That statement rings true here with Bloodborne. The Central Yharnam level is the first actual level players will have to play through. The level is riddled with low-level enemies that die after 2 to 3 hits.

Of course, new players may find this level difficult since this is the introductory level to a difficult game, but once they get through to the other levels of the game, they’ll come to realize just how easy this place is. That is, compared to how grueling the other levels are.

8 Difficult: Yahar’gul, Unseen Village

Once players arrive at Yahar’gul, they’ll immediately recognize a shift in dynamic. These horrendous-looking Lovecraftian creatures are suddenly littered across the map, enemies reappear after they’re rid of, and animosities who hit way too hard await the players as they reach the later areas of the level.

This level is horrible, almost to the degree of terrifying. The boss in the end just adds to the horror factor of this level, and while this particular boss may not be as tough as the other bosses in the game, it doesn’t change the fact that this level as a whole is just taxing to get through.

7 Easy: Hemwich Charnel Lane

The Hemwich Charnel Lane has a very off-putting vibe to it. Players will feel highly uncomfortable just by walking around in this level. This is due to the level’s enemy designs and environment audio.

Once a player is able to brave through its atmosphere, though, they’ll find that they can simply breeze through this level without much trouble. The enemies in this level are less aggressive compared to others, and to top it all off, the boss in this level is one of the easiest ones in the game.

6 Difficult: Research Hall

The Research Hall is a level found in the Old Hunters DLC. The DLC as a whole is arguably a much more challenging experience compared to the base game, which says a lot about its difficulty. The Research Hall is an area that’s filled with spine-chilling enemies with unpredictable attacks that have an alarming damage output.

These enemies will either murder players constantly or send them running. It is a very challenging area to get through that is capped off by two consecutive boss fights—one of which may be one of the easiest boss fights in the game, but the other one is not only one of the most challenging, but also one of the most enjoyable ones.

5 Easy: Lecture Building

The Lecture Building acts more like a bridge in between more elaborate levels within the game, but it provides enough content to be merited as an actual level. Be that as it may, this level is a breath of light and fresh air in this world of horrifying circumstances.

Sure, the level itself looks horrifying and the lore behind it may be wretched, to say the least, but in terms of gameplay difficulty, it’s a walk in the park. For a Bloodborne level, that is. The enemies here, although there are a lot of them, can be rid off quite quickly. Save for one. That enemy, although tough, is infamously slow. Players should be able to get rid of him quickly or just run past him without encountering any other troubles.

4 Difficult: Nightmare of Mensis

The Nightmare of Mensis is the final main level of the game and the difficulty shows it. The enemies here are unrelenting, resilient, and to be honest, annoying. There’s even an area where players will gradually gain a buff that removes 99% of their health just by being exposed to a certain field of view. This level is a level worthy of FromSoft’s stamp.

At this point in the game, players will have already been familiar with the game’s overall combat mechanic. At one point, players will even have to face a group of enemies that are essentially bootleg versions of a previous boss just to provide players a feeling of superiority. Even with all of that considered, this entire level can still wipe players out constantly, to demise and exclamation.

3 Easy: Byrgenwerth

Byrgenwerth may have enemies that can hit hard, but it seems like a breeze compared to the rest of the levels for its short length. There is only one enemy in this game that’s really a considerable threat. Once players are able to get rid of that particular enemy, this entire level will immediately seem like a breeze, which is then made lighter by its short span.

At the end of the level is a boss fight that can be one of the easiest ones if players play it right. With the proper strategy and patience, players will have no problem getting through to this area at all.

2 Difficult: Fishing Hamlet

The Fishing Hamlet is the final area of the game’s DLC. This area was heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s novel, The Shadows over Innsmouth, and just like that story, this level is incredibly terrifying. The level’s atmosphere is just as terrifying as the enemies within it. On top of that, these enemies can hit incredibly hard too. There’s an area infamous for its reward but players will have to face not one, but two hulking monstrosities that will make players replay the death animation constantly.

To top the level all off is arguably the most difficult boss in the game. Better yet, one of the most difficult bosses in video game history. This level is a testament to how incredibly difficult FromSoft makes their games and how willing players are to go through them.

1 Easy: Upper Cathedral Ward

The Upper Cathedral Ward has one weapon in its arsenal. Just one. It’s scary. The level looks like its straight out of a horror game, and while the rest of the game already feels like an action horror game, the Upper Cathedral Ward hits that ball home.

Other than that, though, the enemies in this game are fairly easy to deal with. In fact, all of them are enemies the players have already encountered prior to arriving here. If the player can just get over the idea of how scary the level’s atmosphere is and just fight the enemies head-on, this area shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
