Many Twitch streamers have formed a following that can be rivaled to YouTubers. As their full-time or sometimes part-time job, fans are more connected to them and the support is intense. Ranging from video games to cosplay, there is a variety of categories Twitch offers for anyone to enjoy. Sometimes, however, there are moments where Twitch bans have occurred that are either absurd or reasonable.
These bans can either be temporary or in worse cases, permanent. Some streamers even opted to move on to other social media platforms to continue their careers there or abandon it altogether depending on the streamers’ circumstances. Here are 10 notorious Twitch bans, including the recent one for DarkSydePhil.
10 DarkSydePhil
DarkSydePhil is not liked by a lot, but he has garnered fans along the way. His ban came at a time where sexual assault allegations were coming to light and cracked down, but that was not the reason for his suspension on Twitch. So far, Twitch has not given an official statement regarding Phil Burnell’s ban.
From speculation, it is widely believed that Burnell was banned due to his history of making and defending racist jokes that just do not sit well at all. He has been more active on YouTube and while his ban on Twitch is not permanent, he’s starting to feel more at home on the latter site.
9 Zoie Burgher
Zoie Burgher can be credited for many of the policies Twitch goes by today. Back in the day, she streamed Call of Duty and gained notoriety for being scantily clad and twerking. As underaged Twitch users have more accessibility to watch streamers on their phones, it is reasonable to have those policies be under Twitch guidelines.
Ironically, Burgher did not get banned for the provocativeness she displayed in her Twitch streams, but rather her YouTube video, which has been since deleted. Not too long ago, she has been active on her YouTube channel, where she posts vlogs and life updates. If that works for her, then she deserves nothing but the best.
8 Dellor
At times, Twitch staff hands out bans without fully understanding the context. Former Overwatch professional player Matt “Dellor” Vaughn has a recurring habit where he smashes cheap keyboards in a fit of rage. It is over the top and what makes him stand out, but when he was frustrated from stream snipers, he tore his keyboard into two and slammed his chair. The stream cuts off and Dellor updates on Twitter that he was banned for self-harm.
This affected Dellor negatively and took a small break. Twitch has not responded to his messages whatsoever and another streamer by the name of Tfue protested Dellor’s ban by doing exactly what he did. As of 2020, his ban still remains. Currently, he streams full time on YouTube and remains his usual self.
7 Quqco
One of the biggest highlights for Twitch in 2019 was the strange ban for cosplayer/streamer Quqco. Dressing up as Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series, Quqco received a temporary suspension for her cosplay being “too revealing.” Sure, her thighs are shown, but she wasn’t wearing anything that exposed cleavage or further down her body.
Quqco even stated herself that she bought a larger size so that she wasn’t scantily clad. This is definitely one of the notable inconsistencies Twitch has in enforcing their bans. If you think this was bad, then you wouldn’t believe the next entry.
6 Alinity
Known by the internet as the cat abuser, Alinity gained the reputation of feeding her cat vodka and throwing her cat on-stream but somehow was able to continue streaming like nothing ever happened. Her cat Milo was on her keyboard while playing Apex Legends and the clip surfacing around her throwing him went viral.
What caused her to get banned for a short time. Oh you know, just “accidentally” having a nip slip accident. That is somewhat understandable to have her suspended for a short while, but no bans when she abused her cats and kicked her dog? Twitch, you have some explaining to do on this.
5 IAmSp00n
Twitch may have created a social platform for many famous streamers, but their actions from rising concerns like predators and groomers have been needlessly slow. In late June, Twitch finally took the allegations among accused streamers very seriously and handed a multitude of permabans to streamers that have been involved with sexual allegations.
One of these streamers banned was IAmSp00n. Not only was he banned when two streamers came out with their allegations from sexual abuse, but also using racial slurs for black people. This was one of the necessary steps to provide a safe work zone for not just female streamers, but any other streamer dealing with any form of abuse.
4 ZeRo
Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios went through a rags to riches journey from growing up in Chile and being poor, but he loved Super Smash Bros. By playing competitively and participating in many tournaments for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, he became one of the most prolific Smash players of all time and continued to play the series while being a content creator before a certain event happened.
With many allegations going around Smash players, ZeRo also became one of them as he announced his self-banning from future Smash tournaments and ending all of his sponsorships after two victims came forward with their allegations. Alongside this, Twitch banned his channel permanently and is removed from the site.
3 Amouranth
Cosplayer/streamer Amouranth did not get banned once or twice, but a whopping three times. Her first ban came from May 2018 when she went to a gym without the staff’s permission. Then in September 2019, she accidentally exposed herself while laying down on the floor with a skirt on. The third time was perhaps the weirdest as she only got banned for a full day and was able to stream again the next day in May 2020.
She did not go into detail why it happened, but since she was able to continue streaming after a day passed, it’s just her doing her usual streams. Whether she might get herself banned accidentally again is the real question here.
2 Deadmau5
Music producer Joel “Deadmau5” Zimmerman initially had a Twitch streaming career that garnered him around 469,000 followers. He mostly played PUBG but also does cube art on the side. Things got heated for the producer playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and got suspended for using a homophobic slur. While he apologized for the usage and attacking Twitch’s policies, he moved on to other streaming sites such as the now-defunct Mixer.
Deadmau5 eventually went back to streaming on Twitch, being live two months ago and his followers were more than excited. That would not last long as he recently has his own website to stream going forward.
1 Dr Disrespect
Herschel Beahm IV, known in the streaming community as Dr Disrespect, has perhaps the most controversial and mysterious ban to date. Other than getting the ban hammer, his page also disappeared from the site.
The ban was unfortunate, but Beahm took a theatrical approach and announced his return to streaming on YouTube after about two months of not streaming, and gained a surge of subscribers to keep his streaming career afloat. To this day, the ban still has not been officially stated by Twitch.
