Italian operator Morte arrives in Call of Duty Warzone tomorrow

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone gets their newest operator tomorrow, September 8.

The latest playable character coming to the Infinity Ward shooter is called Morte, and he’s somewhere between Italian special forces operator and – for some reason – a cowboy.

Activision says that the character has “an Old-West inspired look that reflects his passion for Italian-Western movies.”

Weirdly, the new operator is actually based on a real person: Italian rapper Fabio Rovazzi. Apparently, the musician (who is massive in Italy, by the way)  met the studio’s Italian technical artist, Bernardo Antoniazzi, at a science fiction convention.

From there, the duo talked about getting Rovazzi’s likeness into Call of Duty, and Morte was born.

“Being a character in Call of Duty has always been a secret and impossible dream of mine,” says Rovazzi. “There are no words to describe the excitement of the opportunity to give my voice and my appearance to an operator.”

At launch, you will only be able to pick Morte up via a 2,400 CP Operator Bundle (that’ll set you back about $20).

Does this set the stage for more celebrity cameos in Call of Duty titles? It’s possible – after all, we saw Snoop Dogg added as a multiplayer announcer way back in Call of Duty Ghosts.
