Xbox Series S Impresses Multiple Game Developers | Game Rant

The past 24 hours have been pretty crazy for Microsoft fans. After a report from Windows Central detailed the existence of the Xbox Series S, Microsoft went ahead and confirmed the existence of the console by officially announcing it on Twitter. Microsoft revealed the look, confirmed some rumored specs, and announced the release date for the console.

While rumors have run rampant on news sites regarding the specs of the console over the past year, many developers have come forward with impressions of its capabilities. Waypoint Reporter Patrick Klepek has revealed that, based on insider discussions he’s had with multiple developers in the industry, the Xbox Series S is quite a beefy console, even when compared to its big brother.

The Series S is an all-digital console focused on delivering a comparable experience to the Xbox Series X. The console will provide 4k streaming media playback, 4K upscaling for games, and DirectX Raytracing. As expected, the console will also support Xbox Game Pass and xCloud game streaming, which Microsoft intends to have available on all capable devices when the service launches.

More details regarding the Xbox Series S are expected to be revealed soon by Microsoft as the release date approaches this fall. Launching this November, The Xbox Series S is expected to launch day and date with the Series X. For what its worth, the Xbox Series X has not yet received an official release date or price though leaks suggest the Xbox Series X will launch at $499 USD.

Patrick Klepek is a reporter with many industry connections. In 2013 Klepek revealed Microsoft’s 180-degree turnaround regarding the Xbox One’s initial DRM policies before Microsoft officially announced the change. Klepek’s resume includes a tenor at Kotaku, Giant Bomb, and G4TV, which is seeing a revival after ending in 2014.

Meanwhile, Microsoft confirming the existence of the Series S wasn’t the only news about the console. On top of the specs, look, and release date Microsoft also confirmed the Xbox Series S will be launching at $299 USD this fall. The Series S has a price point comparable to the Nintendo Switch which makes the console a must buy, especially considering the financing options players have to help make the console more affordable during Covid-19 impacted times. Reports indicate that financing will also be available for the Xbox Series X at $35 a month, Making Microsoft’s next-gen consoles a force to be reckoned with.
