The Walking Dead: Onslaught has captured the attention of many in the gaming community. In the past, The Walking Dead has had its fair share of success in terms of video games, especially in the form of the TellTale Games series. Though, this new VR experience has many people curious in terms of its gameplay and story.
While this isn’t the first Walking Dead themed VR game to be created, based on what was shown in the reveal trailer, Onslaught seems to have a lot more structure. Now, further details regarding the game’s mechanics and story have fans even more curious and excited for the game’s release.
In The Walking Dead: Onslaught players will be rebuilding Alexandria, one of the multiple survivor communities featured in The Walking Dead. The game will have players going out into the world to find supplies and resources in order to support other survivors and build new structures within Alexandria, as well as building improvements to other existing structures. Of all the Walking Dead games to come out, it seems like this one will certainly give players a greater sense of agency.
Though, what’s even more interesting is the point in the timeline the game takes place in. During seasons 8 and 9 of The Walking Dead TV series, there was a somewhat large time skip. This game will fill in the gap in time between season 8 and season 9 of the TV series. For anyone who was confused in terms of the time skip, this should certainly help and potentially offer insight in terms of the fate of Rick Grimes.
Ever since Onslaught was first announced, many in the gaming community immediately gravitated towards it. The gameplay trailer featured dynamic gameplay and a setting closely resembling the one in the TV series. Now, that all of these additional details have begun to surface regarding gameplay and story, this game is starting to look very promising.
The initial gameplay trailer in particular was quite head turning. The combat and fluidity looks similar to Half-Life Alyx and now that the gameplay has a more complicated structure outside of killing zombies, it seems like this game will be sure to deliver in plenty of ways. Only time will tell, if this game or its story will lead to any kind of impressive outcome.
The Walking Dead: Onslaught launches on September 29 for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, and Valve Index.
