Every Thursday the Epic Games Store makes at least one new free game available to users of the storefront. This week is no different, as two more free games are now available for EGS users to claim. They may not be major releases like some previous weeks, but they’re both well-received indie games. This week, EGS users can purchase and play both Railway Empire and Where the Water Tastes Like Wine for free.
Railway Empire, as its name implies, is a strategy and train sim game in which players design their very own railway network. It’s 1830 and it’s up to the player to connect the disparate pieces of the New World via train tracks. The sim features over 40 different historically-accurate trains, helping create perhaps the most immersive train sim available yet.
In Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, players wander across the Depression-era United States. Along the way, they’ll meet all manner of curious people, each ready and willing to tell their story. These stories act like currency and can be shared between characters to unlock further narrative paths, growing into a larger interweaving experience. Where the Water Tastes Like Wine cuts to the heard of manifest destiny and American idealism.
Two intriguing indie games are now free on the EGS and should certainly appease those who appreciate niche experiences. Railway Empire and Where the Water Tastes Like Wine will remain available for just one week. They’ll disappear next Thursday, September 17, when a new free game unlocks. That game being Stick it to the Man. Stay tuned for more Epic Games Store free games in the months to come.
