Dr Disrespect has been on a rocky road back to the world of streaming. He opened up to his viewers about the anxiety felt over his Twitch ban, and after a short hiatus, landed on YouTube to re-open the Arena, the virtual location where the Doc character streams from. His return to streaming has included some interesting partnerships, and his most recent is attending the virtual tailgate for Madden NFL 21.
This tailgate included a number of Madden 21 games played between NFL players, eSports pros, and others. The main event was a duel between Dr Disrespect and Snoop Dogg, with the Doctor taking the Texans and Snoop taking control of the Chiefs. On his YouTube channel, the Doc has been streaming a wide range of games, and giving his opinion on upcoming releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. In tonight’s matchup, the self-proclaimed “Two-Time Champion” locked horns with Snoop Dogg in Madden, trading touchdowns and talking trash.
Doc has found himself taking on a number of big names on stream, recently challenging PewDiePie to do battle in Fall Guys. This tailgate event with Snoop Dogg fits right in with the kinds of promotions Doc has been a part of since his return to streaming.
The action on the (virtual) field was exciting, with the charismatic Dr Disrespect holding his own against the rap legend Snoop. EA is likely trying to generate some good press for the game, hoping more folks will give it a try. In an early update for the game, black-balled former quarterback Colin Kaepernick was added to the free agent list after fan feedback demanded he be included.
The Madden 21 virtual tailgate provided an opportunity for the Doc to re-enter the public conversation after being unceremoniously dumped by Twitch. The reason behind his ban remains a mystery, but his return has proven he still has an audience, and that he can be an engaging character, even if he gets sacked by the Snoop-led Kansas City defense way more than he should.
The annual EA staple, Madden 21 has been met with a fair bit of criticism over its Franchise Mode and a number of issues that drag the player experience down. Fans look forward to the game launching every year, and expect a lot from EA, but this year’s version of the game is off to a poor start. Despite this, Madden 21 partnered with the NFL to run a virtual tailgate ahead of the season opener between the Houston Texans and defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Madden NFL 21 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One with future release on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
