Can You Play as Krieg in Borderlands 3? | Game Rant

Borderlands 3 is almost a year old, and in the time since launch, it’s provided fans with a host of post-launch content and DLC. That’s come in a few different forms, ranging from new stories to limited-time events, but the newest one brings back a familiar face from Borderlands 2. Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic FustercluckBorderlands 3’s fourth major DLC, sees the return of the titular Krieg the Psycho.

As Krieg has returned, some are wondering if they get to play as the Psycho once more following his appearance as a DLC character in Borderlands 2. Unfortunately, the answer is no, Krieg is not a playable character in Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, so fans won’t get to hear his random quips, or take a crack at enemies with his saw.

While that may come as disappointing news, Gearbox has made clear that it won’t be adding DLC characters to Borderlands 3, so fans will need to live with the current options found in the game. It does appear, however, that those characters will be expanded on with new character trees, so there should be a bit more build diversity in the game when those are introduced.

Krieg’s mind is the central focus of the DLC, however, so while fans may not be able to play as him, they should learn a fair bit more about the character as they work their way through it. Considering Krieg’s split personality — one half being “psycho” and the other being sane — it may lend some interesting perspective about the character and his motivations.

The DLC released a few days ago and is included as the final piece of content for the game’s Season Pass. However, Borderlands 3 is now confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X, so it seems likely that fans can expect more in the pipeline, though that will likely come at an additional cost. There was a sizable gap between Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3, so it may be some time before fans see a potential Borderlands 4.

There’s a deep pool of characters that Gearbox could pull from for future DLC, though, and it’s possible that things change and DLC characters are added eventually. It’s certainly something that would add some more spice to the game, and while that makes it a lot harder to balance, new characters and skills make the game more replayable, which is one of the major selling points of a game like Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 3 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are currently in development.
