It is without a doubt that one of Red Dead Redemption 2’s hallmark features is its vast open-world environment. Of course, with a map as big as the one found in Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games has filled it with various secrets and mysteries from the vanishing audience at the Saint-Denis theater to an alien-worshipping cult in an abandoned hut north of Emerald Station.
However, players should also note that the mysteries in Red Dead Redemption 2 also features creepy secrets that are downright vile and disturbing. Of course, given the violent nature of the game, these occurrences can’t be helped, but it is impressive to see just how much Rockstar has poured into the game as more mysteries are being uncovered even after two years since the game’s release. Now, for those interested in exploring the creepy side of Red Dead Redemption 2, here are some of the game’s darkest secrets.
Several days ago, a Red Dead Redemption 2 player went on Reddit to share an interesting piece of information that some players may have missed during their time in the game. As it turns out, Micah’s hideout, which is a criminal encampment found at the top of Mount Hagen hides a sad and disturbing secret. Upon further inspection of the area, players should see a small shack that can’t be entered in normal gameplay. However, the outhouse is made of wooden slats, and it is pretty easy to peek through the gaps and see what’s inside.
In a video posted by the player, it has been revealed that inside the outhouse lies an ice-cold corpse that is presumably abandoned there only to be killed by the freezing cold. If the player uses their binoculars to look further inside the outpost, they would see the man sitting on the toilet. It appears that the person inside is holding a crutch, but it is unclear who he is and why he was left for dead. Of course, given that the hideout belonged to Micah, it is not at all surprising to see that terrible things have happened there especially since Micah is probably one of the most hated characters in the game.
Next up is what appears to be a disturbing experiment that has gone wrong. Of course, this particular mystery is no longer a secret given that a lot of players have already uncovered this. However, for those who are not so keen on inspecting every nook and cranny of the game, it is still pretty easy to miss. In the West of the Van Horn Trading Post, players will find an abandoned house that looks pretty normal from the outside. However, the inside of the house is the complete opposite given the disturbing things that lie within.
Players can’t just barge through the door to enter the house but rather, they must climb through an open window using a cart. Once inside, players will witness what appears to be an experiment of some sort that some players noted look like the Manbearpig that was featured in an episode of South Park. It is unclear what the creature actually is, but upon closer inspection, it appears to be a combination of various animals such as boar, deer, and many others, and of course, it includes human parts. At the moment, it is still a mystery as to who is behind this abomination, but upon inspecting the abandoned house, players will find other organs soaked in what appears to be formaldehyde suggesting that the owner is either engaged in a twisted form of taxidermy or is doing some sort of cruel experiment.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is just filled with all sorts of cults and other disturbing groups, but surprisingly, references about witches are kept at a minimum. However, in the forest north of Grizzlies East, players will come across a hut that appears to be owned by a witch. Moreover, looking inside the house, players will find all sorts of paraphernalia that suggests the practice of witchcraft. Additionally, there is even a witch’s cauldron inside, which further supports the nature of the hut’s owner.
Of course, one could only imagine the sort of spells and rituals that transpired inside the hut. It’s also disturbing to think that the witch may have even lured unsuspecting children inside similar to the popular fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel. Although there are no pieces of evidence to support this, it is worth noting that players will come across reports of missing children in the game, and it wouldn’t be unlikely if the owner of the mysterious hut is to blame.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for the PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
